mikecontos's Journal, 05 February 2014

I was talking with my wife, lamenting on how I am struggling to log intake etc, and how good I was at it a couple of years ago. She pointed out some obvious things that I was missing. Over the past 1.5 years I have switched careers to a much "bigger" job in terms of time commitment, responsibility and added stressors. She is right. (Don't get me wrong, this is an AWESOME job!!) We have taken an empty 400 thousand square foot warehouse, filled it with racking, equipment, product and a staff of 40 people in just over one year, and I was and am the manager of the whole start up process. We are shipping well beyond expectation and things are simply, swell! However, I am not allowed the same luxury of time that I have had in other positions. The point of this post is not to make excuses, but to point out that sometimes we are unnecessarily hard on ourselves for "failing" when we are succeeding in other areas of our lives. Through it all, I have tried to be conscious of what I am eating, and still fit (albeit slightly less comfortably) in my new clothes. I have gained weight back, but not all of it, and I will continue to seek out solutions to my time problem. That I am taking the time to post in the middle of the day is actually saying something! I have the tools, the buddies and the support. I just have to find the balance in which to utilize them. Thanks all for reading, responding and supporting. You are awesome.

I fully understand where you are coming from. More responsibilities = fewer hours for yourself. But please don't forget to take care of yourself. It is time well spend because you are worth it!

you have the tools, the buddies and the support. and you have the priorities. when the list of priorities shifts to move "this" up, then it will move up. "this" being however you refer to weight/health/nutrition/etc …

Hi Mike, If you have a smartphone, I find the fs app to be a timesaver rather than having to log in every time I have a meal. Just a suggestion :) Good luck!

I agree , the app is way easy to log food as opposed to logging in on the computer each time. I log my lunch food as I am eating lunch at work. Just making a habit of it !

It sounds like on top of having a really great and challenging career you have a really awesome and supportive wife! Just keep trying and dont quit! I gained back some of the weight I lost too this past week. Im so disappointed but Im just glad I didnt gain it all back! I know this will be a better more focused week for me, and I hope it will be for you as well.

Even if you can't log in your app regularly maybe keep a small book in your pocket and write things down when you have a quiet moment. At the end of the day take some time to yourself and enter it all. Besides, the quiet "you" time spent in reflection will do you some good. ;)
