jsfantome's Journal, 03 September 2013

Today is hubby's first day back at work (in 11 days), so I am praying he does well today. He's only been on two tylenol for discomfort, as needed, and seems to be doing ok.

This type of illness is so random. And the more I read, it's sooooo common. Some of it might be genetics - but in large part they think years of being out of shape, and eating a processed foods kind of diet puts too much 'strain' on your lower intestine/colon.

Anyway - this attack is just a symptom of a condition that has been inside him for quite some time. And who knows IF or WHEN it could happen again.

Overall, he's to get on a High Fiber Way of Eating, Drink plenty of fluids (mainly water) and get some weight off and start exercising regularly.

Sounds like advice he was given 5 years ago from someone special :) !!

Still, seeing him in that kind of pain - TERRIBLE. Let's just focus on keeping him well, and following through with the above to do list, and praying that keeps him from having another attack.

Thanks for all your love and support through this. Much Appreciated.

Will keep you posted on how his work week goes... We have until Sat before Departure to make a decision.

Much Love.

Wow... That's progress... Sometimes our nearest and dearest, don't want / listen advice from us, however sensible it is. It takes something major to happen, or someone else to tell them, for it to sink in. The funny thing is, they then tell you how you should be eating / exercising LOL... As if it was all new to us!

Funny, the only thing we've been in disagreement about ... is hubby wanted to defer responsibility to me. I'm his wife, the grocery shopper, the primary cook in the house, etc... Well, NO WAY! was I gonna be baited into that!!! I made it clear to him, the nutritionist and the dr... this time in his life it's ALL HIM. He can choose to allow me to help, but he will direct this ship or be back in pain and facing surgery. I have 3 kids and they are grown! I sure am not going to 'mother him' for the next 30+ years. He just smiled at me...and said..."she's the boss!" (that's his way of saying ok, I'll take responsibility!)

clap clap clap. Good for you Paula. About time. It's so easy to abdicate responsibility but ultimately it is up to him what goes in his mouth. He can ask you to cook certain things and prepare them in certain ways but like we do with our diets, all the time, if we don't think we should eat it, we don't, we eat something else. So again congrats on putting the onus back on him. And hope his first day at work went well :)

Yesiree Paula, he's got to take the reins on these changes and take responsibility for his own health. But like all hubbies, I'm sure he'd like to take the easier route and have you make all the decisions. Men! LOL! Hope he does well being back at work today.

He did do well!!! A little sore between the shoulder blades in his back. He thinks from being on his back and out of it for the last 11 days. He's probably right. But he took some tylenol at lunch time... and other than that he said the day went fairly well. Still taking his probiotic and that is helping keep everything running smoothly. So far so good...
