MorseCode's Journal, 28 July 2013

I really need to get a new scale and I hate to even say that because it just sounds like an excuse but this one is digital and my weight fluctuates depending on where I move the scale in the house. If I weigh in at one part of my bathroom my weight is 203, another is 206, another 208.4, in the living room it's 208.4, in the kitchen it's 207--so who knows what I really weigh! That also means my start weight was probably inaccurate as well as last weeks weigh in. The good new is I've been sticking to my RDI and have resisted LOTS of temptation. I almost wanted to say "screw it" today but with 2 weeks under my belt it's feeling less and less temporary and more and more like a lifestyle change. I am going to get a new scale later today or tomorrow OR I will just move my weigh in to Fridays when I go grocery shopping and use the scale at Publix.

I also have a digi. They're very temperamental. I can get on and it will say 183.2. Get off and weigh again and it adds more weight. Then I'll pick up something from the linen cabinet and weight myself holding that. See the insanity??? I've learned to get on and accept the first weight. Otherwise, there will be another 4-5 different ones. Stick with the first one even if you don't like it. It will go down.

I totally understand about the scales. I bought a new digital one at the beginning of this, too. Mine had stopped working completely. I always weigh myself first thing in the morning, in the same place, wearing the same thing - my nightgown. So I always start out with exactly the same beginnings. Moving the scales will affect what they say, too, so I don't move mine much. And I accept the first thing my scales say. It doesn't really matter what the scales say during the week...it's what they say on weigh in day that matters. I heard once where a lady would always clean her scales before she'd get on them. She said that dust must weigh something. I can't be that fanatical about it. If I'm wearing the same thing I wore at the start of this, and I'm wearing it when I weigh in, then any difference is my weight loss. (I don't wear the exact same nightgown - I have 6 of the same one...lol) CR is right, the scales will go down. Don't let them worry you. You're doing great.

Every scale can weigh something different when you move it around. The flooring has something to do with it. It's important to get one scale as your "official" scale. Keep it in the same place (do not move it around). It should be a hard level surface for the most accurate reading. Weigh the same time of day, same clothes, same everything to accurately gauge your weight loss. I usually do first thing in the morning before eaitng or drinking anything and after going to the bathroom. The scale will shift all day long based on what we eat and drink, exercise, sodium intake, hormones, stress, medications, sickness, lack of sleep.etc.

Forget the scale!!! How are you feeling? Do you feel like you are healthier as a result of your efforts!!! If you feel better, that is the best measurement!!! The numbers will do what they are going to do. Success is more than a number. :)

I know I shouldn't be so caught up on the numbers. I do feel better. I think I am going to weigh on Friday's at Publix. The scale we have now is in the bathroom which my husband feels the need to redecorate every other day so it's hard to keep it in the same spot-
