Hey all, just a quick note.
I'm sorry I haven't been on, I miss you all! Greg was in town for 6 days and we were gone for 4 of those, so I wasn't online at all. Then my dad and sister came in for the weekend and left Monday morning.
This weekend was Good Ol' Days, which is the town festival and the Fort played a major part of that. We had the Budweiser Clydesdales come and a lot of living history people - with oxen, mules, covered wagons, etc. It was tiring and busy, but a lot of fun.
So I worked Monday morning and my dad and sister left to go back to Charleston and got in around 6. At about 10:30 CST I got a phone call from my sister saying my mom was in the hospital. They had gotten home and my mom was laying on the couch in the living room and must have been watching TV and fell asleep. Anyway the dogs were outside playing and I guess one got a little aggressive and my sister was nearby and was just telling them to settle down. Well my mom panics about the dogs getting in a fight and must have woken up when she heard my sister. She was still half asleep and running towards the back door and tripped over a dining room chair and I guess slammed into the back door door jam. She has a gash on her nose, a cut on her forehead and hyperextended her neck. She fell and immediately was in excruciating pain in her hands; she said she felt like thousands of needles were sticking her. She is still able to feel her legs, which is a good sign. She has had a CT scan and MRI (which they are waiting on the results of). The emergency room doctor called in a neurosurgeon...and I'm not sure if he/she has been there yet. So we're just waiting. Apparently they (docs) are being cautious about moving her in case she has a slow bleed in her brain. She will probably have to have surgery and this is especially dangerous because she has horrible scoliosis (3 S curves) in her back so this injury along with it is awful. I of course wanted to go back home and am sitting at the airport now. Luckily I had a 3 hour nap this evening before I found out.
I had to call my boss at home to let her know and woke her up. I was supposed to open the site tomorrow. Because of going it will mean I'm in KS longer, which is frustrating since I was looking forward to getting home in 5 weeks. But it just depends on how my mom is if I will be able to continue the internship or not.
I got so annoyed with my dad because he's a very non chalant person and I sent him and my sister a text message saying I got a flight and when it was and he called a few minutes later and asked why I got one since they didn't know anything yet. But I mean I want to be there. I told him because she was my mom! It's not like she broke her leg and is there, it's a SPINAL injury! How frustrating. I mean what if she has to have surgery? That is dangerous and I want to be there. And even if all they say is she needs rest and to stay still a couple days, well then I'm there for that and to help out. My mom is the one that takes care of my grandparents, so although my aunts and uncles are around I hope they'll actually help out.
Wow, this is longer than I thought. I haven't been eating that great in the past week and a half and today was my day to get back on track. We'll see how long I'm in Charleston and what happens. Please keep my mom in your prayers and if you don't pray send good thoughts our way.
