Day 3 adding back dairy & I'm irrationally excited about having cottage cheese today -- just have to remember to eat it mindfully (right, Angel?)! Felt a little stomach discontent after yesterday's serving of Greek yogurt, but nothing like after Monday's 2 servings of milk. Will report my findings after today & consult with health coach on results before any final conclusions. Although its really not been tough eating dairy free (except for missing cottage cheese & other soft cheeses on my salads), I can't imagine staying completely off dairy either. Given my rather minor discomforts while having dairy again, I'm guessing that having it in limited amounts might be just fine, but as a scientist, I know I shouldn't jump to conclusions until finishing all the research:)!

I've started reading about about mindful eating (thanks, Bella), and am finding it very helpful, especially since I dont really cook, eat out a bit & travel more now that I'm an empty nester. I'm away again this weekend from Fri - Tues spending 2 nights with my MIL & 2 SILs, then traveling to visit a friend & her mom with my MIL (both moms are recently widowed). Will be in Atlanta, then Fl, so should have some better weather again. And, plan to practice eating mindfully while away, since I might not have control over every meal choice. But not fretting about it as I'll start my days then as I have been, praying the Serenity Prayer, and taking it one day, meal, bite, moment & emotion at a time. Xoxox

Have a great trip! Atlanta is supposed to get some yucky weather this afternoon but hopefully will clear by the time you are there.

Fresh milk contains more lactose than processed (like yogurt or cottage cheese) and the hard aged cheeses contain even less (as does cream). I know this because I am lactose intolerant. Maybe you are as well? In any case, wishing you the best of weather this weekend!

Angel Ruth - so glad your body is able to accept dairy again especially if it's something you want. I'm still muddling through the book and boy oh boy do I wish we could go have tea this afternoon. Somewhere warm and sunny. I really liked the mindful eating concept from the article but the book is leaving me with a 'you're doing it all wrong' feeling and I'm uncomfortable. Then again, sometimes change is uncomfortable. The part that really got to me was the concept of the 'fist' being the size of my stomach and being directed that I would only want two handfuls of food ... I can see that with a steak heavy meal or something but it made me ashamed to imagine my SALAD bowl - it's probably about 6-8 handfuls of spinach, coleslaw, etc! However, definitely again, something to think about as I move from 'restrictive' eating without phasing back to 'overeating'.
