Loose skin ... still on my mind. Read about dry brushing your skin for improved skin elasticity, and something about your lymphatic system (shouldn't try to learn new info at midnight, I guess!)and some swear it improves the sagginess of skin. Things that make you wanna go..."Hmmmm..." Okay, anyone reading this done this? Does it work? From what I read last night, it can stimulate collagen production, and it performs a sort of detox of the tissues, which can help both cellulite and the sagging skin. (Makes me think of the old adage - if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is) Other things I read agree with what Info mentioned about taking up to two years for it to find it's way back home. Other things swear it's remaining fat deposits and you have to get your body fat percentage down really low. Which may be worth considering, but begs the question...when you then add more body fat (I don't want to look like a body builder, just want to be fit and lean and strong) will it then lead to the same thing? I'd think not if it actually worked in the first place. Another site led me to bodybuilding.com for women who've tightened up after weight loss (but I was too tired to explore this further and bookmarked it) and mentioned doing weighted crunches. An idea. I know you can't crunch your way to defined abs - you have to burn the fat off first. Learned that one from Jillian Michaels, but also first hand. I'm feeling some awesome abs going on here---BUT, lift the shirt and can only see obliques. And some flab and wrinkly skin. Full circle :)

Okay, is it BAD that I'm happy today is a day off from Insanity?? I will still work out, of course, and probably do two workouts. I skipped Slim in 6 yesterday (it's also a 6 day per week routine) because I needed to get stuff done, and wasn't feeling it. But with all the walking and carry groceries back and forth, etc. and shopping at another store, I still managed a good burn for me yesterday, over 2600 calories. I'll give this another week and if my weight loss stays at this rate (.8 lbs/wk when the numbers would suggest slightly over 2 lbs), then I'll call the endo and ask for an increase in my dosage. Funny how my number right now resembles weight loss before starting thyroid, and weight loss a couple of weeks after the second level dosage. I'm thinking maybe it's NOT a coincidence, but will wait and see next week. I'm still feeling like I ought to drop a couple of pounds here overnight, but that's just not happening.

Because I'm such an Amazon junkie AND so desperate to try anything to lose this loose skin, I ordered a manual on "how to" for dry brushing your skin and a brush.

Okay...much later. I so ENJOYED not doing Insanity today :) I did the Slim in 6 and I did a new one (to me) of Kathy Smith's - a fat burning one, so about 1 1/2 hrs. total, but not a huge burn. Maybe 450 calories? Oh well. Nice to give my poor knees a break. Pool, shower, pharmacy then dinner... ooohhh...big plans :)

Oh yeah...this is cool. Updated weight and measurements on the bodybugg site and they've calculated my body fat at 22.4%, which I think is pretty close to the number I get on my Tanita body fat scale :)

Dry brushing?!?!? Like you said.....things that make you go hmmmmm.....you'll have to give details when you read more. Sounds interesting! And YES you should happy to have a day of no Insanity!!! :) man you are really working out. You go girl!!! I KNOW we are different levels of working out.....but I KNOW you feel so good...maybe NOT getting started....but nice your IN it and when your done. I really can't stand when certain people say to me "ahhh skip the gym...give your body a rest". REALLY??? Cause I've "rested" pretty much the last 41 years.....and THAT didn't feel so great! lol I think even a little something of a work out feels 100% better than that old "give your body a rest" theory. Okay couple days late....but tried getting link on visceral fat. (I'm using an iPad.....and hard to get some stuff)....but what I did start to read and see.....IT is very interesting...hmmmmmm!!!! I will continue reading on this for sure. Hope to hear from you soon! :) Suspense.......ahhhh..... Ha ha.

If you can't view the material on you iPad, try to use a computer. There are a few things I'm absolutely passionate about and this BBC video has so much great information that I had to share it with everyone I know. :) --------- I think most people (most) mean well, but watch out for well-meaning saboteurs bearing gifts (pass from the gym, a treat because "you've worked so hard for it", etc.) I'm with you! Resting got me HERE! lol... I shouldn't have a problem getting into a couple of workouts today just knowing Shaun T isn't gonna kick my ass today :) I may stall a bit longer and start your letter :)

Don't be discouraged (yesterday's journal), I believe that a pause here and there is completely normal. In a single week you *lose* 0.2 pounds and already you want to adjust the thyroid medication? Hmmmm... ;-) Interesting results with your research on loose skin. I've read that the dry brushing (preferably with natural fiber) improves circulation. That seems to be almost common knowledge these days. Whether it will solve the loose skin problem or not is questionable, but it could be one thing that helps. Many moons ago, I did some dry brushing and found that it certainly made me feel good but, beyond that, I'm uncertain. I intend to start up with it again. I replied to your comment yesterday. Have a great day redwinelover!

Hi Info, I'll go check your journal. Been wondering if you're "okay". Last couple of days it seems you haven't journaled early in the day...hope all is well. The reason I want to adjust the thyroid medication isn't so much that I've only lost .2 lbs in a week, it's also that the numbers don't add up, which is how it was before thyroid pills and then after a few weeks reverting to that again, then having it increased (I'm only on one full pill of natural thyroid, generally the lowest dose) and being able to lose almost 2 lbs a week again for a while, now it's tapered off again. I keep track of what I eat, almost as I eat it (not always, especially when it's the same food like my typical breakfast), try to keep sodium under the 2300 mg. per day, and my bodybugg keeps track of my calorie burning and the numbers don't add up. I've been in a decline losing weight again over the last three weeks or so. And since I'm "new" on the meds, we have to find the right level to me. But thyroid affects ALL sorts of things besides - only one of them being skin and collagen and elasticity! Dry skin and hair, dry eyes (my only other prescription medication - Restasis for dry eyes and don't think it helps me much - been three years), moodiness, low basal body temperature, slow resting heart rate (which does worry me with mine being in the mid 40's), difficulty concentrating, forgetfulness, sometimes yawning to get more oxygen (weird to find oneself yawning in the midst of a workout, but it's happened) - the list goes on. And yes, many of these symptoms can have a crossover affect and/or be due to premenopausal issues, but I can't get over the feeling that I get when I first started the thyroid meds and that first couple of weeks with the new dosage. Alive. Energetic, optimistic, happy, "normal"! And I think when I find my dosage, that's how I'll feel on a typical day. ------------------ As for the dry brushing, I'm certainly going to give it a go. It may not be "the" answer, but it sounds like it could certainly help in some areas of my life, regardless. Let's let each other know how the dry brushing is going and if we feel any of the effects once you start, too. I should have my "supplies" in a day or two :) Even if the only benefit is improved circulation, that's worth the couple of minutes a day to me. :) Thanks, Info. I'll go check your journal now...

Dry brushing huh? Let me know if it helps - I definitely have saggy skin. I did manage to do my DVD for 19 minutes today. I'll try for 25 - 30 tomorrow. I keep telling myself I can do it and just focus on 1 minute at a time and not the whole workout.

I just read a bunch of posts on this - I am going to get a brush and try it.

I have a natural fiber mitt that I use everytime I shower to exfoliate, and I do so vigorously. I don't know if it is the same as dry brushing, but that along with an in shower lotion sure makes my skin look and feel nice. lol I am going to check out the dry brushing site and see what I can find out. Thanks, RWL!

Andrea, you CAN do it :) Really, you're able to do it. Don't let your "head" get in the way of your body :) And sometimes concentrating on each minute makes it unbearable. Try focusing more on exactly HOW you're performing each move - how your posture is, if you're putting maximum effort into it, or just "going through the motions", keep checking your form, focus on your breathing and make sure you're not holding your breath. You have to keep your muscles oxygenated while you're working them so they don't fatigue too early. Maybe give this a try instead of focusing on each minute?

Suzanne - it's worth the shot, huh? I mean, there is NO downside, only the potential benefits. Might as well...what have we got to lose?

ctlss - As long as you have a natural fiber brush it should be fine. I think (I'll see what my book says when it arrives) it's basically using the natural fiber brush and starting at your feet and working your way up, kind of quickly, not a long process (I think), always brushing toward your heart. It supposedly both exfoliates the skin and gets the lymphatic system in motion, draining out the toxins and blah, blah, blah deep in the tissues. Maybe try it dry, jump in the shower and do your regular routine? I'll share anything I learn from the book when it arrives.

Sometimes I make afternoon posts or even evening posts, it all depends on what the landscape looks like. I don't know anything about thyroid problems at all, so perhaps I'd better not "opine." I would like to see you fighting to stay away from drug therapy, but I'm sure it has it's place in the grand scheme of things; and, I'm sure that you have given it a lot of thought. I confess that your eagerness to embrace it surprises me a bit. You have explained yourself and that's enough of course. :-). I think we shoul support each other on the brushing and any other health related area. Let's continue working on the abs and with the loose skin research. I think that the bottom line here will end up being sustained, balanced, exercise over an extended period of time. Are we ready for this? I think I know what your answer is... :-)

LOL!! You know me better than I thought! :) (one more thing on the thyroid medicine. For those that have a thyroid problem, it's just replacing what your body isn't producing, or sometimes the body produces enough, but it's not being absorbed correctly. Trust me, it's nothing like a diet pill or a quick fix or hCG. It's like giving insulin to a type 1 diabetic. You wouldn't really hope a type 1 diabetic would fight to stay away from drug therapy, right?) If you've ever got some time on your hands and are interested in how the thyroid functions, etc. a quick place to find information (hehe) is here: http://thyroid.about.com/ Mary Shomon has a lot of great info there. But that's if you don't have other pressing matters. :) Here's to sustained, balanced (?) exercise over an extended period of time (like the rest of our lives)!

Went and got myself a brush tonight, and watched some you tube videos on dry brushing technique. Will try it in the am, before my shower!
