Row #33 on the books, another ten easy minutes just to be able to lay the claim of 90 days properly. I say easy, but it burned 70 calories, so that was a much better investment of my time than say, sitting on the couch. I also did a gentle swim which included an intermission of sorts as my goggles broke right in the middle and aren’t fixable. I don’t think I’ve ever had that happen before. I ran inside the house and found my backup pair and finished the thirty minutes out. Numbers are unremarkable, but I finished it rather than calling it a day and sitting in the bubbles. Time to order another pair of goggle this morning. The backup pair is even older than the pair I was wearing, so who knows how long they’ll last, but good enough for now. 840 strokes, 9.3 METs, says average heart rate of 131, but that doesn’t jive with the actual splits, so meh.

Pretty happy with the progression on the rower. I’m not looking to do anything crazy, but it will come in handy should I get another invite to go sea kayaking again. Where I really feel it is in my legs, it’s evening out the muscles in my quads which have been dominant for so long from walking the hills around here every day. Not complaining, those hills are my salvation from lethargy and depression. Simply put, walking is my daily salvation and the dogs are comic relief. The rowing, entirely different thing. It’s a good place to channel the energy leftover from the workday. My legs are looking leaner and my posture is definitely improving. The kink that I’ve been getting in my neck is also bugging me less. Cardio is also better and I can feel that in the swims. It’s really hard to put into words just how bad sitting at a computer all day every day is for us. We follow these trends of “broccoli - the hidden killer”/s and people jump on the bandwagon and adjusts their diet, yet it’s the lack of meaningful movement that’s killing us. Not something you can fix with a magic pill or order of foods on the plate. These are my feelings for me only, but I know I’m correct in what’s right for me. Sciatic is also a symptom of sitting still too much. We press on. Forward only. Learn from the past, don’t dwell in it. When I write these things, they are observations, not criticisms, we all have our own challenges in life.

Finally, we walked to the park, I am still hurting, but it’s bearable and the dogs needed to get out as much as I do. That was a promise I made when I got Sadie and I do my best to honor it no matter who the current tenants are. My little section of Balboa Park is overrun with influencers lately, who else would be so emboldened to stop traffic by walking across the street ten times in order to look natural. The photographer and assistant were what gave it away. There was another girl with her phone overly dressed for my section of the hood doing the classic duck face pose in the golden light just before sunset. She was smart enough to know how to capture the light, I assume. I have decided to capture these creatures in the wild for the amusement of myself and my friends since it is a fairly recent phenomenon. The only place they irritate me is when I’m trying to shop and they’re blocking the aisles at our tiny Target for the perfect shot for the ‘gram

Finally, other than the limitation of a cell phone camera, we were being greeted by a neighborhood canine friend in the third story window of one of my favorite houses. She’s such a sweet creature with a big voice, and I just love her barking her message out to the world from the absolute best lookout post in the area.

Very slow medium walk last night, just focusing on movement. Also resumed rowing last night #32 with a very gentle ten minute session. I’m not going to say there was no pain, it was just better. Watched some videos on sciatic relief and have been following those. Got my steps in, closed my rings, and actually felt better during the day. Should be through this is a couple more days. Might bring out the inversion table because I really do think that helps. Enough. Moving on.

Rowing challenge. Hit the first thirty days, ordered a cute pair of shorts as motivation for the next 60 days. Going to wait until 90 for the next prize and I think that will be a new coverup for getting out of the pool. The competition kind, not a skimpy little frou frou thing.

Honestly not sure what’s going on with the scale this morning. My old scale says I weigh less than this one, but I want the details, so we stick with that. Blob up, muscle down, water super low. Could be the effect of taking it easy for a couple of days. We’ll see where we are tomorrow. I’m going to take it easy for a couple more days, but keep moving. I want that muscle gain and cardio benefits.

there is a great article in the WSJ on doctors using the Apple Watch to monitor their patients’ health and collecting data for a number of studies. I’m not a participant, but I have two friends who are and the watch motivates them and potential issues are flagged earlier than waiting for an event. A-fib and seizures are the two conditions I know they’re studying. Neat stuff if you have someone affected by these or other conditions.

Had another rocket launch last night. Could see it with my eyes, but it was still pretty light so visibility was poor. Still fun.

Weekend rules, enjoy the day!
