I'm a middle-aged woman who suddenly sees myself as others do, over weight, and frumpy (for lack of a better word). I wasn't always over weight. I was a size Medium through my early adult years. Seems like ever since menopause hit, so did the weight. Although, my eating habits also changed and have a lot to do with the situation I find myself in now. I'm looking forward to using this site to get myself healthy again. I know I'll never be in the same shape I was 25 years ago but it would be nice to be close to that weight.

As an update, I was recently diagnosed with Celiacs disease! It's a battle but I'm getting through it and I'm beginning to feel a bit better. Anyone out there in the same boat I'd love to hear from you. We can exchange war stories...

drinking water strategy
You can ease into drinking more water. Everyone's body is different and requires different amounts of vitamins, minerals, water, etc. The time of year, or the location of where you live may have a lot to do with how much water to drink. If it's hot, you'll sweat it out as well, so you may need more water. Your body will generally tell you when it needs water, your mouth should feel dry. There is such a thing as water toxicity from drinking too much water, especially if you aren't used to it. Personally, I don't worry so much about how much water I drink. I look at my urine after I've gone to the bathroom. If it is a darker yellow, I know I need to drink more water. I hope that helps. Good luck.

Starting a new life
Thanks everyone for the words of encouragement. It's my first time trying this out. With the responses I've gotten, I'm sure I'll reach my goals, there is certainly a lot of support. Blessings to you all and good luck with your journeys.

Starting a new life
I stumbled upon this website and really can't believe all the FREE information available! It's GREAT! I can't tell you how many sites I've viewed that start out being free until you really start to look into the information and all of a sudden you need to pay for a membership. I'm a female in my mid 50s. Sad to say, I've let myself go. After I went through "the change", I've not cared about what I ate, nor have I bothered to try to lose weight. I had some blood work drawn a couple weeks ago and got a call from my doc telling me to go on a Gluten Free diet. GREAT! Do you think he offered a nutritionist, dietician, or any other help...? I guess they don't think it's necessary in this day and age of the internet. At any rate, I will be looking for gluten free recipes, and low GI recipes. I'll have to start a walking schedule. Other autoimmune issues prevent me from starting off strong. I'm hoping to eventually make my way up to a mild jog. I'm hoping to find some friends in the same boat to give some encouragement when I need it, or a good swift kick in the butt! I'm sure do to the same. Bests wishes.Smile
