Why I love running... alone at night

Running in the dead of night is now my go to workout. While at first I thought it's something I would only do in rare occasions and only if I'm with a group of buddies, surprisingly after a month of consistently doing late night runs alone, I'm definitely hooked. It has become a therapy not only for the body but also for the soul...

... the silence of the night where everything seems to stay stand still gives me pause to live in the present

... when the only sound is myself running out of breathe, it let me acknowledge my own limitations and not feel bad about it

... when there's only me and the endless road ahead, it keeps me patient and positive - tomorrow I could always ran farther.

... it lets me focused on how I see myself and not what the society dictates of me

... it lets me be

I am an emotional eater. By saying out loud hopefully I'll do better next time.

I blew my diet yesterday and I shouldn't have let one bad situation compromised what could have been otherwise a good day.

The day started very well. We woke up early to check the campus my daughter planned to go to this coming August. The campus is 3 hours drive outside the city, nestled in the foot of a mountain so we thought to bring along our two English bulldogs hoping to get a nice stroll and light sightseeing.

We haven't had breakfast so by the time we got there it was nearly lunch and everyone is famished. I ordered something relatively healthy (fish, light fruit smoothie and a taste of cheesecake).

Now, energized and ready to take on the campus tour when my husband, as he was loading one of the bulldogs in the truck, inadvertently dropped his car key and trapped the bulldog inside the car with the key! This is noon and while the vehicle was parked under light shade still the temperature inside must have been too hot for the bulldog.

It was Saturday and there's only few people milling around and because the campus is far from the city, there couldn't be someone who could have helped us on time. So acting quickly, I suggested to break one of the windows. My husband was hesitant at first (the car was barely more than a year old) but I guess the determination in my voice moved him into action.

Poor car and poor husband but I'd say not waiting for help was the right decision.

Anyway, on our way home, can't resist on dim sum, pork buns and fried rice... Did I deserve to treat myself? Definitely yes but I could have chosen healthier options. Oh well, all I could do now is recognized this weakness and try to make better choices next time.
