I am 74. I have been up and down many times, but leveled out about 240 several years ago and haven't been able to do much about it. Recently retired and determined to get eating in check and exercise regularly. Around the house more, so snacking has become less of a problem. We'll see how it goes.

Phosphorus Intake
Is there a way to track phosphorus content of foods in Fat Secret. It is not reported on most food labels, but the RDI for adults is very low (700mg/day)

Calories remaining???
Your daily food diary will calculate the percentage of your daily calorie goal consumed as you add food throughout the day. Scroll all the way to bottom of the food diary page (after the snacks section). Its on the left.

just got started
Its a pain in the neck, but I find it imperative to plan your "eating day". Fatsecret makes it easy for me to think about what I am taking in at any meal, and where I am against my daily objective. I can also plan for special events like dinner out at some "super calorie" restaurant, both selecting my menu items in advance and "saving up" by eating less at other meals.

gnat84 is right, weight loss is a numbers game. Calories in vs. calories out. Fat secret will give you a calorie number to maintain your current weight. How much you take off that number will determine how much and how fast you lose weight. My advice: slow and steady.

Get obsessive about reading those little info panels on your food containers. When I get tempted by that candy bar, it helps to know I am giving up 180 calories for a thirty second snack. You will soon memorize your favorite foods and it will help you keep your diet on track. A pound or two a week is plenty for most people and frankly, the longer it takes you, the more likely you are to make good eating a habit.

Finally, I am not dissing exercise, but it is not a terrific weight loss tool. Just check the fatsecret exercise diary to see what you have to do to knock off a 12oz coke. I'm not saying don't exercise, just don't try to "work off " your weight and end up with a knee or back problem that will keep you from doing any exercise at all. Exercise is part of a healthy life style, not the magic bullet to weight loss, so go easy.

And good luck.

Loose Skin
I have actually lost weight to the point where I have some loose skin. Anyone have ideas about how to tighten this up?
