I just had my 53rd birthday. We celebrated with pizza. I've been married for 16 years. No children but 4 german shepard dogs. I'm retired from the Air Force and now work for the county sheriff's department. My job isn't very active so I have to make an effort to get some exercise. I was diagnosed with type II diabeties in 2005. It was quite the eye-opener. Since then I've been more aware of what I eat. I've changes some of my habits but I feel guilty when I stray. I'm looking foward to working with this site and all of you.

Over 50 with same 60 lbs
Alright ladies! And here I thought I was the only one with a significant amount of weight to lose. I retired from the Air Force 10 years ago and started packing on the pounds almost immediately. I still work full-time so I'm not on any particular diet. I've found that if I deny myself something I want if all the more and will totally pig out on it. If I limit myself to small portions of everything I do much better. I love fruit so it's easy to satisfy my sweet tooth. I find it's bread I have to watch out for;dough of any kind...pizza being my one BIG weekness.
For exercise I have an eliptical machine that gets my heart pumping but I also like a combination of yoga and Pilates. It's very relaxing after a hectic day and not very strenous. I also have 4 german sherpards to keep up with so you would think I'd be very slim. Not so. I'm also a terrible couch potato. After I eat all I want to do is sit in my lounge chair with my feet up and stop thinking. Having recently given up smoking I find that is the most dangerous time. Sitting in the dark with idle hands. Out comes the ice-cream and I don't stop until the carton is empty. At least it's a small carton Razz From 175 to 135 is a long trip but it's one step/day at a time that will win the race.
Good to share with ya'll. Hope to keep it up. It's important to know you're not alone.

What Music ~Do you guys listen to when exercising?
I agree with the upbeat music. Rock is my favorite. I've also found that watching an action movie is very stimulating. To see an actor engaged in physical activity like in a "Charlie's Angels" movie is very encouraging. Time slips away.
