Woo HOOOOOOOOOO! I weighed in this morning and found I went down! Okay, ONLY half a pound but I went down! I was really starting to feel discouraged with my weight loss...not seeing a steady drop. But, I felt really good about my food choices yesterday, watched my portion intake, especially at lunch, and worked out.
While laying in bed last night, I thought some more about some of the new stuff I heard Dr. Phil talk about on my CDs. He says that we develope habits for the instant reward, or the instant gratification. We will not hold onto a habit unless we feel we've received a payoff of some sort. If we didn't receive a payoff, we wouldn't hold on to the habit. Makes sense.
Anyway, while I was laying in bed, I started to really "think" about my weight. Yesterday, I saw a couple of pictures of me from last year. The pictures were taken shortly after I had my daughter. I lost quite a bit of weight while pregnant with her. I had hoped to keep it off but instead I gained 30 pounds. I wondered why. Really...why?! I think my "instant payoff" is the pleasure and comfort I get from food. Somehow, I need to find an alternative to food in order to recieve these "payoffs". I have no idea how to release the hold that food has on me when I seek it to give me pleasure and comfort. Starbucks lattes, for example, give me feelings of happiness and pleasure. I feel good when I smell them. It's some sort of smell thing, I think. I need to find out what it is about that that draws me to them and figure out how to replace it with something else.
Whew! I think I'm getting a little too pshycological for myself this morning. And, it's only Tuesday. lol But, I am on the right track.
I WILL become the ultimate me! I can and I WILL!

Yayayaya! Loving the tude, girl!! Payoffs... I used to reward myself with a Yankee candle every quarter, a medium jar, when I was in college. I loved the different smells and loved burning them. I would pick something like blueberry pie or melon or whatever I felt like. It wasn't much, but it wasn't a reward of FOOD! Keep on truckin' BABE, you CAN DO IT! =D

I'm going to start calling you Mighty-slur! At least you're analyzing WHY you do the things you do. I agree with you when it comes to smell. Sometimes I won't be hungry at all and won't even be thinking of food, and then as soon as I smell dinner cooking, I get hungry and decide I have to eat!

hee hee The name "miteslur" is the spelling of how my last name sounds... I like the new name, tho. lol I am still trying to figure out what sorts of payoffs I get from food, as I KNOW there has got to be many reasons and not just two. It is a lot harder to figure this out than I expected. I think I've given food too much control over my emotional well being. Once I figure it all out, the tricky part will be substituting something in the place of the food. Something that gives me as much PLEASURE as food! It's not just about "rewarding" myself. It's in the moment emotions that trigger food cravings. I'm sure the more I listen to Dr. Phil's CD the more I'll be able to conquer this.

I know when I am eating REALLY CLEAN(no sugar, etc.) I start to really enjoy the smell of things... so much so that smelling something sweet, really smelling it (brownies, cookies, bread baking, etc) just about replaces having to eat it. I know this sounds a little cazy, but try it. Maybe a latte candle would even do the trick. :)

HHhhmmm...good idea! =) I hadn't thought about that, really. There have been a few times that I can recall smelling something in hopes it would do me well enough not to EAT it!
