Started working with online trainer on 3/7 and have been eating 2100 calories a day. He said one of my major issues was not eating enough. I have been satisfied each day and have lost 4 pounds since I started. I was scared that I would only gain weight.
142.0 lb Lost so far: 0 lb.    Still to go: 12.0 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.
losing 4.7 lb a week

I encourage your weight loss, but I disagree w/ your trainer. It doesn't make sense that if you eat more you will drop the weight faster. It doesn't work like that...I'm living proof. I dropped my RDI to no > 60%/day and I have dropped 8 lbs in 3 weeks. It all comes down to the volume of food you intake. Good luck!

I agree with your trainer - especially becuase the body needs fuel and protein to support muscle. Good for you and congrats on the loss!

There is a trainer at my gym that also suggested that I raise my daily calorie intake. Although I usually get around 1200 calories a day, she said that my slow down in weight loss is probably due to my body going into starvation mode. She said that starvation mode happens not only when you have too few calories, but it will also happen if you are burning more calories than what you are consuming each day. So if you workout in any way, you have to up your calories to compensate what you are using. The goal should be to equal it all out at 0. So if you are burning 2000 calories a day (including sleeping, relaxing, work activity, working out, and so on), then you will also need to eat at least 2000 calories. This is recent and unfamiliar news to me, so I have been very reluctant to do it as I was afraid that it would not work out good for me. I have been trying to research it online, but for every article that I read about it, I find another article that contradicts it. It is very hard to decipher what information to trust and what information to throw out. What I do know is that I have been working out for about a month and a half now, which is also about the same amount of time that my weight loss has significantly slowed down.

I hear what you are saying. When I was using Myfitnesspal it said I should be eating 1200 calories. I was forcing myself to try and do more and more exercise as after an initial loss of 2lbs which took me a month to lose, I was going up and up and ended up half a pound more than when I started. Her on fatsecret it says my calories should be 1400+. I found it hard most days to reach that as I had conditioned myself to try and keep to around 1300 (1200 was too much for me to stick to with the exercising as well). It seemed the more I exercised the more my weight was creeping up. Since using fatsecrets recommendations I have stayed the same. So hopefully in the next couple of weeks I will start to lose again.

Sorry, slight mistake. fatsecret actually says 1600 not 1400. Mercury14, I believe everyone is different. From personal experience it can't be just down to volume intake. Although I have health problems that affects my mobility I do adapt exercise and dance. I was doing between 1-3 hours most days and even allowing that muscle is heavier than fat, it was ridiculous the way my weight crept up. Since I have stopped worrying too much; still doing some exercise as best I can and eating around 1400 calories I have stabilised and back to the 2lb loss again. I also remember in my early 30's believing I was 'fat' and dieting. I got to the point where I was underweight yet I still had a fat stomach. Nobody can convince me there isn't any truth in the 'starvation mode' theory.
