trackin64's Journal, 30 January 2016

After nearly 3 weeks on low carb I've noticed a benefit beyond weight loss: My skin is much improved! It's not just that it has "brightened" - I think this happens with most diets just from reducing the load of what a body has to process. What I'm noticing is my areas of psoriasis are receding and thinning. At its worst it was pretty much taking over my scalp and patches were starting to appear on my face. I am SO pleased to reverse this condition. Now, is it something about low carb (and getting my blood sugars down) or is it about the foods I'm not eating (wheat and other grains) that makes the difference? Whatever - it's only a matter of curiosity. Clearly my body likes this way of eating and seeks to heal itself. I think that when we're in conflict with our bodies over weight issues we tend to forget that our bodies, when fed right, will heal and normalize.

Some foods cause inflammation (wheat specifically but others also) and that can affect autoimmune diseases/conditions. Psoriasis, fibromyalgia and other conditions like that can be helped when the inflammation is reduced. SO glad you're seeing an impact, no matter the reason! :)

Yes, inflammation definitely a factor. Arthritis and carpal tunnel symptoms have improved also. I'm excited to see where things will be in 6 weeks as I've read it takes that long to get the impact of wheat out of your system.

I credit my knees to feeling better with the Atkins plan. I was eating horribly over the holidays and my knees were killing me. I called the Ortho for a steroid shot, but I had to wait a month for an appointment. In the meantime I went back on 20-25 carbs per week and they got better right away.

How much weight have you lost

I have lost about 8.5 lbs since I started up again 1/12, Abbeybye100. It doesn't show on my FS because it uses a starting weight from another period. Soon I will be back to that weight and start seeing my progress on that progress bar!

That's great, Diehard3! I have a real revulsion for the concept of having about having shots in my knees.

I get rashes from wheat so I would go with that. Also more fat I would think would help your skin, soooo... Also If you've upped your water game that will make a huge difference in everything skin related ... Awesome!!
