I'm not diabetic, but my husband is pre-diabetic. However, my daddy and granddaddy both developed Type II later in life, so I want to avoid that. After watching HBO's Weight of the Nation and the movie "Fed Up" I've decided to severely limit my sugar intake, except for what is hidden! (GRRR!) This hasn't been hard thanks to Stevia.

To get myself kick started, the only carbs I'm eating are in vegetables and fruit. No, not even oatmeal or whole grain anything right now.

I am not a big carnivore, but I love vegetables. I love dairy, so cheese and yogurt (Triple Zero!) and cottage cheese are helping. Also eggs and nuts.

Eating out is pretty much salad salad salad. Or the cafeteria, where there are lots of sauteed vegetables and meats like roasted turkey and fish.

This is hard to sustain long term for me, because I get tired of my choices, so I will add in some whole grain carbs later, after I've taken off some poundage.

Good luck on your diet! In my opinion whole foods are the way to go.
