i am quitting smoking. i have been focusing my energy on that. so far i cut the number of cigarettes in half, and today i start cutting that number in half again.

i'm not eating a lot because of the no smoking, but i am not making the best choices. and there has been a bit more snacking. i bought halloween candy, and of course i started to eat it. my husband said i should have bought stuff i didn't like. he was right. he is starting to talk about losing weight too. i think it will be so much easier to have him on board. the last time we did weight watchers, we did it together and it really did help.

i think he looks great, but i can see what he's saying about losing weight. i hope he thinks i look great too. but i feel so terribly ugly. i am actually starting to think about wearing makeup, and i never wear makeup. what i really need to do is lose weight. (i almost typed loose there, which is one of my pet peeves).

thanks for all your support!

Great job with the cigs. Keep it going! Focusing on quitting cigs and having only a 0.4 rise in weight makes you a winner. Keep up the good work.

I quit smoking last summer. It is the best thing I ever did. And for six months I didn't gain any weight. I substituted a carrots and celery in place of the cigarettes. But when my sense of taste and smell returned all that hard work went out the window. I would like to support you in your quit. I love being a non smoker. Easy? NO but it is the most rewarding thing in the world. It is the gift that keeps on giving.

Congratulation on your decision to quit smoking.

Congrats on your decision to quit. Like Vanilla Bean, I am an ex smoker. Been quit for over 2 years. Any weight gain is more favorable than the detriment of smoking. In the end, you will have so much more energy and lung capacity that you will exercise harder and the weight will come off. It's not easy. but I would also like to support you in your effort. It is not easy. I had many many many ... uh ... many quits ... this one stuck. Good luck.

Good luck in your quitting smoking! Chew sugar free gum. That is what I did. Chewing gum also keeps you from snacking.

Thanks so much everyone! I was not successful in only smoking 5 the other day, but I am going to keep trying. If I can still keep it below 10, I feel that is good. Not good enough, but better than 20. Deb, I need the nicotine gum...sugar free won't cut it for me!

Does your husband smoke? My husband quit smoking before I did, so I could not smoke in front of him. That seriously cut down on how many cigarettes I could smoke a day. :)

Deb, my husband does not smoke. I have a picture of him in my smoking cessation app to encourage me but honestly it hasn't been much of a deterrent. He's being very supportive. I kind of lost track of things with the robbery, but I'm getting on track again today. I can only keep trying. The same with my weight. I have to remember to try to do my best.
