Worst wide-awake episode in a long time. Woke after 2 1/2 hours of sleep. Stayed awake until late morning, when I managed to doze off for 1 1/2 hours, another 1 1/2 hour in the afternoon. Last night got treated to an hour of someone in the house next door ranting about their love life - a refreshing change of pace from the usual constant dog barking.

Morning plank. Ten minutes on the Air Walk Trainer first thing in the morning to burn off glycogen.

Today is an up day on the Alternate-Day Diet (eat all I want) because I have a crockpot full of beans to dispose of.

I believe it was Mark Bittman who wrote that if you want to lose weight, eat in instead of eating out. Now that it's cooled off, things are heating up in my kitchen. I've cooked a lot of beans in the pressure cooker, but decided to try the crockpot this time. I had a bag of Challah beans on manager's special from Kroger. Soaked them overnight and overcooked them for six hours on high instead of three so I got a few burned beans. Added garlic, Knorr beef stock, and onions. Topped with a couple of tablespoons of Hidden Valley Roasted Garlic Parmesan spread I'm trying to get rid of. The crockpot takes less adding more water than the pressure cooker, makes less noise, and softens the beans more. Even though it was 55 outside, the crockpot kept the kitchen toasty warm.

As I try to switch to less processed foods, I'm interested in exploring making my own yogurt and cheese and food dehydration. On a more self-indulgent level, I'm also interested in making my own ice cream and brewing my own beer.

dreamcatcher10, used bake my own bread, but my bread machine broke. Looking to getting back into that as well to avoid added ingredients in commercial products.

Thanks for the tip, newnormal. Found a recipe online. Anything that cuts down on the amount of kitchen gear is welcome since I don't have that much shelf space.
