Fledgist's Journal, 25 May 2011

I did 42 minutes in the gym yesterday. This morning, I'm down another half pound. I'm down to the second-to-last hole in my belt. I have another belt on the way, this one a 36".

I feel torn between anxiety that the pace at which I'm losing weight is slower than I'd like (less than 2 lbs a week) and pleasure at the way in which my body is gradually being reshaped. I keep noticing how flabby my belly is, and how much flab I have on my sides, but I think there's less on both.

It's a struggle, but I'm in it for the long haul.
218.4 lb Lost so far: 118.6 lb.    Still to go: 50.4 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

when i ran outta holes..i just drilled 2 more in my belt...wasnt ready to buy a new one yet...as for the flab not coming off as fast..you have to remember that you are probably now shaping and toning more now then in the beginning...so the weight will start coming off slower then in the past...i kno it sucks..but thats just the way it works...or at least thats the way i have noticed it works for me...as long as you stay consistent...its gonna come off...way to go on the loss...little by little...

Good morning, good job on the increased time of exercise every day, and on being near the end of your belt. You have lost an amazing amount of weight and its to be expected that it will slow eventually. Anything off your body is a plus. Have a great day!

I'm not a braces-wearing type. I look at my belly and it seems as flabby as ever (more so, in fact), and I sigh. I seem to be building muscle in places that I can't see (the back of my shoulders, for example) and none where I can. I grant, the first place where I noticed that I was losing weight was very visible: my throat. Bren. If you look at my weight history and scroll all the way (weigh) down, you'll see how much I've lost. It's a little bit more than 118 lbs.

Fledgist, you are doing fantastic. 2 pounds a week is about the perfect weight loss, especially with the increased exercise. By the time your birthday rolls around you are going to be one lean, mean machine! Keep up the great work, and have a wonderful day!

The “flab” does seem to be a consistent problem. I didn’t lose nearly as much as you yet I have flab at my waist, mostly on the sides. I assume that it’s because I used to need that skin to cover the fat that’s now not there. When I pinch a fold it’s only about ½ inch thick so I don’t think there is much fat, just skin. I can only hope that it will go away over time. I guess it can be removed surgically but I’m not willing to go that route.

I've got pouches of flabby loose skin too, and I wish it would go away. Not sure if that will happen, but feeling better is much more important than looking perfect. And I bet you feel like a million bucks compared to how you used to feel. That happiness and confidence will shine through in your appearance too.

Congrats on that loss. Yes you're right it does slow down but slow and steady is the way to go. Just keep exercising and some of that skin will tighten up.

I don't know about being lean and mean on my birthday, Stef (it's only three months away, and I doubt that I could lose that much in three months. I'm hoping that by then I'll be under 200 pounds (even under 14 stone, 196 lbs). Muskie, Coco, some of the flab is skin, quite a bit is still fat. I'm hoping it will tighten up with exercise too, Cathy, but that takes quite a bit of time. Still, I have that.
