So I went to an endocrinologist yesterday; the center specializes in metabolic disorders, diabetes, thyroid problems . .. . We are doing some blood work, but he said the best approach to managing my problem is to keep up the god work and lose weight. I really picked at his brain and asked a lot of questions about insulin sensitivity and cortisol and the different hormones that support hunger and weight loss. ... . It's not an exact science and there's a lot of unknown variables . . . . I wish I could share all the info I gathered with all of you but I don't even know how to sum it up. The guy was very knowledgeable and polite. For once I'm looking forward to my follow up visit with my dr! The thing that stood out to me though was that the old adage, eat less to lose more does not work! And that when our bodies get used to what we are doing, it stops cooperating with weight loss, so MIX IT UP!
163.4 lb Lost so far: 74.6 lb.    Still to go: 3.4 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

i don't agree with his "eat less to lose more" does not work. I think it does work and I think it works fabulously. However, what I DO agree with is Mix it up....our bodies do get in ruts, and used to things and resist what we are doing. I agree that being ready to change and tweak and move to a different method is probably the healthiest thing of all. Because with our ever changing hormones, as age, as we go through different stages in life...we change....and so the way we do things must change. Especially how we eat.

I think for some people eating less is very very low, and I do find that that does not work; in the long run anyway; the idea of less as in portion control does!

Thank you all! I hope I can keep making progress despite all my setbacks and personal problems . . . . . I'm sure all the stress is not helping me!

Good work visiting with an endocrinologist. I agree with you about people who eat very very low calorie diets - our body will adjust to smaller amounts and our metabolism will slow down. Eating less calories overall broken down into five or six mini meals will push the metabolism forward! Good luck and congrats on the 50 pound loss.

Too low of calories will not work and keep you healthy. My plan of eating nutrient dense foods, limiting calories and exercise has worked for me.. 50+ pounds less and feeling terrific... good luck with your doc, it helps a lot if you like him and feel good about working with him.

Good going Tulip.... 50 lbs and counting :). Keep it up. I totally agree about mixing it up. I am experimenting with more carbs a few days a week while keeping it under 100 and staying within my RDI. I am still losing inches even though pounds are slowly descending. I am fine with that :)

I agree with the adage. The KINDS of foods we consume certainly make a difference. Blood work is good. I repeat: blood work is good. So glad you experienced a productive and informative doctor's visit. Sounds as if you are on your way to Success City. Let's enjoy the trip. Fat Secret HUGS for you Kiddo!
