My liver started hurting again... I'm sure it's fatty liver disease. I have to do something. Have been going to bed earlier, sleeping about 7 hours and getting up a little earlier, which does make me feel better than my old up-til-2 schedule. I turned down Mr C's offer of picking up scones this morning. I'm about to go on a 1.4 mile walk and then I'll have a boiled egg and tea.

Why do you assume it's liver disease? a diet high in fats? or lots of alcohol or toxins in your diet? Milk thistle is an excellent cleanser for your liver, take it in drops under the tongue and/or drink the tea. I also drink Dandelion root tea to help aid the liver in digestion. But if you seriously think you have a problem , go to a dr and get it checked. The liver can rejuvenate itself but only up to a certain point.

My question also.

Beets are a blood cleanser as well as helping the liver detox, but milk thistle, or the active compound called silymarin, can help with liver regeneration. Start each day with 1/2 lemon squeezed into a big glass of water and drink that first thing to help flush toxins out. You can make a salad with dandelion greens or saute them with spinach, beet or collard greens. And drink plenty of water. I find I want to drink more water when I have some lemon in it, and that will also help the liver.

When I first lost my initial 100 lbs I was diagnosed with an enlarged liver and fatty infiltration. You should have a blood panel done to be sure, before you try to address a problem you may not have. The garlic is a good idea as well as any root tea. Steer clear of artificial sweeteners.

Garlic is only useful if it's raw because once cooked, the active ingredients are neutralized. I've also heard that it can affect the good bacterial in the gut since it has very powerful antimicrobial/antibacterial compounds, so there is the good with the bad. It will indiscriminately kill the good bacterial along with the bad, so then you can replace it with fermented foods that have live bacteria. Most probiotics you can buy aren't very effective, but repopulating your gut with foods that feed the good bacteria is best. Dandelion leaf tea is a diuretic, but it doesn't deplete potassium as drug diuretics do; and dandelion root tea can help with the liver. Always weight your perceived risks before trying something new. I am one of those who loves to try many new things, which is how I got into medicinal herbs and how to use them. I know many herbalists, so you might find some good info from Chris Kilham, the Medicine Hunter if you do a search. The American Botanical Council is where you can find the ABC Guide Clinical Guide to Herbs. I hope you find this information useful.

mummydee and wholefoodnut, a doc did tell me I had fatty liver disease a few years ago, at which point I did lose weight. I had the same symptoms then that I'm having now. Unfortunately, I gained back about 50 of the 60 pounds that I lost. Thank you also to HtownMedicineWoman and Alnona for the tips. I do prefer natural remedies rather than prescription drugs. I really don't like how quick docs are to prescribe meds. I'm seeing my husband and my mother get into a cycle of taking one drug, only to find that they're having to add another drug to fix the problems caused by the first.
