GlennM's Journal, 22 February 2011

Hi all. I am switching back to Atkins. I don't have much of a choice because of sky-high cholesterol levels. After a few months of doing Atkins they went to excellent levels, near where they should be. My triglycerides are in the 500s plus and it is from psychiatric meds I have to take, no choice there. On Atkins I was less hungry too. I will ease into it and continue to eat things like rice until they are gone from my apartment, no sugary stuff around except maybe salad dressing. Feel free to become a buddy or tell others on Atkins...

Thanks ctlss for accepting my buddy request. I am going to ease into Atkins, maybe do 150 gms of carbs a day until all the rice, pasta, black beans, etc. is out of my apartment - then I will go down to 30 gms or less until I am down around 200 lbs. I have no choice - as I mentioned I have the cholesterol issue and sugar and carbs do for some reason cause high cholesterol - mine is also from meds so a vegetarian diet won't work, I know Atkins will. My blood sugar is in the 80s usually, so that isn't a problem and won't be in the future either if I'm doing Atkins, with everyone on here I know I can start it again and stick with it...

I'm here - with insomnia! Did a lot more editing this evening and night than I have done lately, must add a few things into Book 2 - a few scenes - so it should be done some time in the next week. Yes, it is back to Atkins. First I must start to get rid of some of the high carb foods. Now I'm off to sleep! :)

Glenn- I have cholesterol issues as well but Atkins did just the opposite for me and my triglycerides skyrocketed. I have been tracking my cholesterol on my food journal. I keep it at 300mg or below and that has dropped it straight down, next blood work is in a month so I am anxious to see the results now after 3 months. I eat about 100 mgs of net carbs /day. I think this is a good example of not every plan working for everyone. Absolutely do what works for you and your health!

Thanks for the information Babs - I was on it for quite some time I think. The physician's assistant at the time thought it was from Omega 3, I knew it was Atkins. I was doing 30 to 50 gms of carbs a day then I think. Yes, everyone is different, but Atkins after a time dropped my cholesterol dramatically. Maybe a maintenance of 100 gms of carbs a day will help inevitably once I drop about 15 lbs.

Welcome back to Atkins Glenn. Everybody has a different WOE and hopefully Atkins will help lower your cholesterol. Most people do have very good blood work ups after sticking to their plan. My doctor was very pleased with my last blood work. Glad that you're my buddy!

Thanks Cindy, I was on maybe for a year or so before the results were really dramatically better. I must stick with it for my long-term health - some things are preventable - eating junk food and sugar isn't healthy for most of us to do continuously, and for me it is time to start eating healthier again, be it just proteins and lower carb vegetables...
