How is everyone doing? These are the days we should be especially kind to ourselves, because they are so challenging in ways we never would have believed.

In our house, we are preparing for the long haul. Pandemic fatigue is setting in, but we can't become complacent. We had a short period of relaxed measures and even ate in restaurants three times, but those days are over. So we have stocked up for the winter uptick in cases that is predicted, we got our flu shots, and unfortunately we've had to stop walking in the parks because so many people were not wearing masks or keeping their distance. I'm starting a gentle yoga program I have done in the past to help with my back pain and for the general good feeling I get when taking care of myself.

Foodwise, I am not as strict as I was when I was trying to lose. Now that I'm on maintenance, I notice that I don't eat as big of portions but I do eat a great variety of things, and indulge myself in small quantities of favorites--primarily treats like graham crackers, small Reese cups, cake, etc. I made 3-2-1 cake for us with sugar free cake mix, which is fun, and sugar free oatmeal cookies. I usually have something like egg salad, pimento cheese, or leftovers for lunch, with olives and pickles and seed crackers. I make a lot of casseroles in the instant pot for supper, but also a lot of veggies. I roast them in our air fryer, or stir-fry them in a wok. Here in Texas it's still pretty warm, but soup season is on the way and I'm looking forward to it. I do want to watch my sugar more, so that is a goal.

One thing that has helped all of our attitudes in our home and kept us from sitting around noshing is having projects going. I always knit and crochet, but now I'm also relearning to weave. My husband and our daughter are each building a computer from components. It's been cute watching them plan and research and source together.

Whether you're weight is up or down or static, try to give yourself a break these days. Practice a lot of self care. Talk nicely to yourself, because this is really hard. Much love!
