JulesMac's Journal, 02 February 2019

Yesterday, I had a non-scale victory. I had planned for weeks to have a piece of homemade chocolate cake. The cake is one that I was planning to make for my daughter’s birthday. But, a part of me was worried, I was afraid I would go overboard, be taken over by cravings, not be able to control myself, etc. because it is chocolate, and I LOVE chocolate. I made supper (my daughter’s requested meal of chicken with Alfredo sauce over rigatoni noodles and garlic knots) and I had one serving of each (not low carb, not keto, but for the first time in a long time, I didn’t over indulge. Then, came the cake, and I thought I would hear an angel choir and a beautiful beam of light from heaven when I took my first bite of that chocolatey, creamy goodness. And, it was terrible. Too sweet, and despite the fact that almost a whole pan is still in my kitchen, I have no desire to eat it. I almost feel like I’m free for the first time. Victory.

You did so well. Yeah it is weird to eat very sweet stuff once on keto.

Good for you! Save another piece for your daughter and throw the remaining cake away. Nice loss as well 👍!

Thank you! Chocolate was my thing, once upon a time, but this was over the top. I’m pretty excited about how unappealing it is now.

Try training yourself to portion control and you should be able to eat what you want. If you want pasta dishes, measure just a fist full, possibly a cup. And have a 1/4 cup of cake with a cup of raspberries, blueberries and blackberries. And plate it all on one plate and take your time to eat it, while enjoying each bite. I use a glass plate/tray and I feel like a queen, while eating. Incorporate rich high antioxidant foods too, such as walnuts, almonds, olives, capers, etc.. it will keep you feeling full longer, so it will keep you away from carb and sweet cravings. Also, avoid alcohol. Instead, drink a Kombucha in a wine glass. Kombucha has a low percentage of alcohol and low on carbs and sugars. Plus, it’s good for your gut.

Amazing! I can relate! After four weeks of keto I allowed myself to have some ruffles potato chips.. which I usually LOVE...they were gross! and I cannot remember what else I tried, but nothing really tasted good anymore! VICTORY comes in many forms!!!!

By the way...same...over the weekend I portion controlled some tortilla chips to have with salsa and they tasted flat!!! LOL....everyone else is like these are soooo good. I am thinking "they used to be, but now they are flat".

I had a similar experience this weekend. I gave into emotionally eating on Saturday and Sunday and felt like absolute crap. my stomach was a mess until yesterday when I got back to my healthy eating. I feel much better today and planning on a nice, big salad with protein tonight! The worst part is, the food I normally would've loved, didn't even taste that great to me. definitely not worth it!

It is great when your taste buds are on board with a healthier way of eating! 😂 Honestly, without my sister, and going the distance together, I probably wouldn’t be doing as well. I’m proud of us, especially since we aren’t strangers to emotional eating. We can all change y’all! We can gain control of our eating, and be healthy for ourselves!
