MrsTofu's Journal, 24 April 2012

Twice a month on Tuesdays I get together with my fellow MOPS moms. (MOPS is Mothers Of PreSchoolers, it is an international, faith based organization for women based on the idea of improving communities by improving the moms in them.) I am really grateful for my local MOPS group. There are a lot of amazing women in it that have become my friends, we get to hear great speakers, play games, do service projects and generally socialize while learning how to be better moms. As part of my MOPS group we have brunch in the morning before our other activities. I both love and hate this. I love it because I like being treated to brunch. There is almost always an incredible spread of food, and it tastes good. What I hate though is that since I've changed my WOE, there are far fewer selections I can partake of. Thankfully there have been a couple of options that I CAN eat without compromising my WOE. However, it's always a guess for calories. Maybe I could have found a more accurate representation for what I ate, but I didn't care to try that hard to find what I imagine was like what I ate. So I am not even going to pretend that my numbers today are remotely accurate for my diet calendar. Oh well. It was a great time and I don't regret eating what I ate there. ( I had some kind of egg casserole with peppers and sausage and a lovely spinach and celery salad with sliced pear, chopped walnuts, and a vinaigrette.)

There you go, do things intentionally and enjoy life. Allow yourself some flexibility when needed, be strong and firm when needed, and accept grace always. Way to go!

Wow, brunch sounds WAY more complicated than it is here! Is it catered, at a restaurant, or do you all bring stuff?

The group is about 50 ladies divided into six smaller groups. Each meeting one of the six small groups takes a turn supplying the brunch where each lady brings a dish. We even vote on our favorite dish to award what we call the "Betty Crocker Award"- it usually goes to some pastry type dish, though I keep trying to bring more healthful alternatives in hopes of winning the door prize that goes with the award. It's a lot of fun- both competing for the door prize and getting to be treated to a buffet style brunch. :)
