What a difference a day makes. I completed my first day and already I feel the difference in as far as I feel less bloated and calmer because I feel more in control. I think the extensive prep helped too. It's kinda like "ready, set,go" mantality. My blood sugar was great this morning. I even was able to take less insulin.

As a Nurse, I know what I am suppose to be doing to control my BS, but knowledge doesn't seem to give you willpower. I agree with Oprah, it's not the food that's the issue, it's the reason that you use food for comfort that needs to be addressed. For me, it was the loosing of my career and the feeling of sadness and isolation that this brought. By the time I found an outlet to alliviate my loneliness, I had doubled my size. Isn't it amazing how easy it is to put on and how much of a struggle it is to get it off!!!!

Hi patrice, I think you have come to the right place. Not only the is the diet right, people here are very supportive, particularly if you are just getting started or are having difficulty of any kind. When I first started using this diet, I was somewhat confused by the excellent concept that the SBD was and what I considered to be the poor organization of the original book. Someone here was kind enough to recommend The South Beach Diet: Good Fats/Good Carbs Guide by the same author. It is an inexpensive book (Amazon: $799, Amazon Resellers: $2.41) that was published long after the original, bringing one up to date with a few changes, and providing lists that help one get a clearer grasp of what and how to eat on the different phases. As a nurse, I'm sure you are quite aware that there is practically no way around the calories in, calories out concept. For that I use FitDay.com (free registration) which is very fast and easy to use. It takes a few minutes to figure out how to get foods out of the database (enter "egg raw" instead of just "eggs" or you will be plowing through several pages of hits). There are other sites that do this. At any rate, while SBD does not count calories, it stresses the importance of calories; and, I have found that FitDay provides a fast, sustainable way of doing this. Good Luck to you!
