Exercise shouldn't feel like punishment. But that is how I have treated it in the past - a punishment for overeating. No wonder I fell off of the exercise wagon for so long. Recently I heard a couple of people talking about how much they liked to read while they were on a treadmill or exercise bike. I thought to myself, how do they do that? I'm always pushing myself to breathlessness, there is no way I could read! But I have found this last week that it is enjoyable to read while I'm riding my bike on the trainer. I warm up good and do some intervals and then ride a solid steady pace. My heart rate is elevated so I must be getting come cardiovascular benefit. My all or nothing thinking towards food also applied to how I exercised - all effort or nothing. Moderate exercise is fun - and I actually have more energy for the rest of the day because I haven't exercised to the point of exhaustion. It also feels like something I am more willing to do on a more regular basis :)

Wow - that is a huge realization! Good for you. I love to exercise, as you know, but I don't think I would be very motivated to do it either if I went all out, all the time! I am amazed at how many thing I am realizing now that I am in my fifties. I thi k this is the best time of my life!
