Annabelle3117's Journal, 28 April 2015

Good morning everyone! Hope all is well. I slipped a bit over the weekend with a couple of drinks, a few too many cheese and crackers, and a trip out to eat but I think the damage is minimal. Back on track yesterday and hoping for a good weigh in Friday. Even if I'm only down a couple for the month total it will still be good considering all of the stuff that's gone on this month.

Saw my daughters pediatrician to go over the lab results this morning. She has hashimoto's disease. Her body is attacking her thyroid, which is leaving her with low thyroid hormone levels. Waiting on a call from the endocrinologist, he will most likely start her on a thyroid hormone supplement and schedule us for a consult. She is also developing insulin resistance. He blood sugar levels are fine but her pancreas has to work double time to make extra insulin to keep it that way. Grateful it's not diabetes, but it is definitely a warning sign. I'm meeting with a nutritionist to discuss her caloric needs. Since I've lost weight I have cut almost all of the junk out of our diets, but it's difficult to help the kiddo when I don't know how many calories she needs while she's growing. Just more incentive to keep up this healthy lifestyle for all of us, especially her.

So that about sums it up. Hope all is well with you guys!

I'm glad you have answers for your daughter, but it's too bad there is something wrong. :( At least with the thyroid they can hopefully control it with meds. The nutritionist will be a help too and be a good motivator to be that much more healthy. I've always thought about that with my kids, there really isn't much to tell you how many calories they should have, but just the common sense stuff to feed them healthy foods, not junk. That's great, but I think that when you have kids sometimes it's just easy to get them the processed snacks or run through a drive thru when they're hungry, and as a parent who has a bunch of other things on your mind you don't always think about your kids nutrition. That's been me anyway. You definitely have me thinking about my kids though and what more I can do to make them healthy. I hope the meeting with the nutritionist goes well!

Wow! So glad that you got answers and that there is a way to treat this. With your medical training, you'll be able to help your daughter immensely. And good for you at changing your life style to be more healthy conscious. Eating right and exercising with your daughter will help you both through this. Good luck.

Glad you got some answers. Your sweet baby couldn't have a better person to take care of her. With the weight loss and your experience with schooling and on the site training, things will go well.
