Working mom of 2 kids. I want to be healthy so I can stick around for them as long as possible. I have other health issues, I don't need my diet to start affecting other areas of my health. My main goal through all of this is to get a good handle on my diet. I can commit myself to exercise, which is usually first thing in the morning, but my eating habits are horrible. My kids watch me eating junk and that is what they want too. My husband hates anything to do with vegetables and my kids have picked up on this too, so it's going to be hard to make something healthy that we can all eat. I may have to go it alone on the vegetable front but if I can be healthy it's worth it.

Protein Shakes
Cricketgk, that's what I was thinking, maybe use frozen fruit to keep it cold for longer. Do you use a regular cup or keep it in something special? Or does the Nurti Bullet come with it's own cup?

I do take the shakes with just the mix, but I'm looking at mixing in either fresh or frozen fruit and don't know if it will last. Right now, I've just been either drinking anything mixed with fruit for breakfast or drinking just a normal shake with just the powder and then having some fruit on the side. I'd like to mix the fruit into my shake before work and just go, but I don't know how long it will last. I hate to waste it. Maybe I'll experiment a bit over the weekend.

Protein Shakes
Does anyone make protein shakes or smoothies at home and take them to work? I can't use a blender at work, but the new eating plan I'm following calls for shakes or smoothies as snacks during the day. So, I didn't know if anyone had made a blended shake with fruit or a smoothie with fruit and ice, and left it in the fridge and it turned out okay. I've put them in the freezer, but it seemed like it was too frozen then and took forever to thaw. If it's only going to be a short time, it's probably okay in the fridge/freezer, like my morning snack, but the afternoon snack could be questionable. Anyone have any good smoothie or shake suggestions? I don't need brand suggestions, but recipes or what works well for storage is appreciated.

Thanks!!

Well, here goes...........
Good luck! When you eat better and exercise the feeling better comes with it. Just keep trying different things and something will stick for you, if it's low carb then great, if not try replacing unhealthy snacks with healthy ones or do some extra exercise if you are going to eat a big meal, little things can make a big difference. I know it's easier said than done when temptations are all over the place, but you can do it. I haven't had a soda in 3 weeks and I haven't been eating as much sugar per day and I'm feeling good. 3 weeks isn't a long time, but I have a lot of weeks to go in my life, so I have to start somewhere. Smile I hope you have success!!

RDI, should I always hit 100%
I also think that FS is high in the recommended RDI. I set mine at 1400, but aim for lower. I've lost consuming around that as long as I'm getting exercise in as well. With time you also learn how much you need to keep you feeling satisfied and to keep losing. I started with a higher RDI and as I was eating cleaner and exercising started lowering until I was consistently losing. I don't think I will ever go under 1200 because for me that is just not realistic and I couldn't stay that low for a long period of time. I'm not in this for quick loss, I'm in this to get healthy and stay healthy for the long haul.
