Annabelle3117's Journal, 14 August 2014

Good morning everyone! :) Thank you for the warm welcome and support. Checking in this morning before I head to work. Tonight is my last night of class for the week, looking forward to the evening with my husband and kids on Friday.

Did well yesterday. Stayed within my allotted calories and no junk! Which reminds me, after my journal yesterday I was thinking about all of the thinks I did poorly while I was away. Milkshakes, fast food... Then I realized that I'm forgetting what I did right. I didn't do a whole lot right lol but I did always stick with diet soda instead of sugary soda. I ordered steaks with sweet potatoes instead of fries or onion rings... and I opted for sirloins instead of ribeyes. I continued drinking a lot of water, and kept as active as possible without any real gym time. I never gave into the lure of all the vending machines on campus that everyone raids on break. And I certainly didn't venture to the dunkin donuts or mcdonalds during the breaks in class. So okay, I did a lot of things wrong and it's apparent I need to work on that, but I did some things right too and Im happy for the healthier changes I've made that seem to be sticking.

We are what we eat. We have been doing a lot of talking about that in class regarding sodium, cholesterol and saturated fats. My teacher is real big on plant proteins and staying away from meat and processed foods. How does one get enough protein from plant sources alone?? I have been pondering on a green smoothie in the mornings, because I could use the vitamins I'm sure, but I don't know what I would do without meat to boost my protein. I'm no vegan lol, but I might try to tweak my diet a little here and there for the healthier. This week I'm giving up processed/canned foods and extra salts. My teacher told us that it only takes two weeks to lose the taste for salt, we will see. This is going to hurt the old budget, but I'm up for the challenge. I'll keep you posted!

Well that's it for this lil lady, run run run. I hope you all have a wonderful day :)

PS- The heart dissection was awesome!

It sounds like you did a lot of good. We can't always be 100% on but even when we are not it's important that we make mindful choices. That's what you did. When you get a minute to breathe you will be back to being diligent and in attack mode. Enjoy the fact that you can also maintain your weight when you are on the little "breaks".

Yo, good on you for looking back and recognizing the good over the bad. You were in a new situation, not that you haven't had your share of challenges these past few months, and now you know how to better prepare for next time. I get the whole 'vegan' logic of life but I defend my stance with that age old adage 'I didn't climb to the top of the food chain to eat plants', LOL. I picked up a protein shake mix yesterday just to give me a little nutrition in the morning when I'm not hungry; will let you know how it goes. What's important is you're back, you read as if you're refocused again, and we all need a break. You didn't just fall off the wagon and stay in the ditch, you climbed back on and are probably in the front seat.

I like that you took the time to review all that you did that was RIGHT. Great perspective that we all need to do! It's amazing how a little here and a little there can add up to a whole lotta great!

From what I've seen with those of us who "go off", we don't completely go totally batshit crazy with eating. We're still mindful in ways. And that's good. It's still embedded in our brain that we are losing and wanting to get healthy. So, no sweat deary. You're fine.

Just keep doing what you have been doing to lose the weight you already have. Your method is a tried and proven FACT! Saturated fats are excellent for you and tell your teacher it has been proven that it does not cause heart disease. It's the fat we need to stay satisfied when the meal is finished. Everything the nutritionist and doctors have been telling us about saturated fats have been wrong. Look up the book "The Big Fat Lie."

Glad you are back. And I think you are right to start focusing on what you did right while you were off your chosen path. To me those are things that you really have changed. Now you know that those changes stuck you just need to think about the ones that didn't and how to make sure that when this happens again, at least one of those sticks. Remember it is a journey and we don't get it all at once. One step at a time.... :) At least that is what i am telling myself.

I just bought vegan protein powder, 21grams of complete protein, just as much as the whey protein I had been using :)

Good for you for giving yourself credit for the things you did right! I really like the idea of diet tweakage as well. Big radical changes work for some people. For others, it's the smaller tweaks that help move us forward. I totally agree with Alex - it's a journey and a process.
