Good Morning, FS Warriors! First, I think I'll tell you about last night's adventure at the Nursing Home. "Adventure," you say. Haha, yeah, really. First DW and I, along with the Pastor and his wife, went to dinner at the local restaurant. DW was craving liver and onions. I had 2 salmon patties, peas and an apple salad. Did really well, until the waitress brought the platter with the desert offerings around. As she named off the different offerings, I thought, "No danger there." Then the last one she uttered, "Blacberry pie." OK, it was scrumptuous! Back to my story. We took Pastor's wife with us (she does vocals, wonderful voice), and the Pastor went on his way, to hand out flyers for Saturday's fish fry. We would bring his wife back, and all meet up in the church parking lot, after the nursing home gig. So, it was my pleasure to do the 10 or 15 minute devotional in the middle of the gig. Halfway through the first half of our show, I look over and this hugely stout fellow in a wheelchair was just knocking the hell out of the frail little guy sitting in a chair facing him. I just remember saying, "Aw, come on,!" and in the process of beginning to put my guitar down, the girl was already on him and pulling his wheelchair out of striking distance. It was sad, because the little guy was bleeding and just sitting there kind of in a daze, like he didn't know what was going on. To be quite honest, I don't think either one of them knew what was going on. They called for the nurse, and both guys were taken back to their rooms. When we finished the show, we found that the ambulance was parked at the door, and we would have to wait for them to get done, before we could move our gear out of there. I asked who they were there for, and they told me it was one of the guys who had been in the fight. I assumed it was the frail guy. When they wheeled the guy out on the gurney, I saw it was the one who threw all the punches. He was sitting upright and strapped in, just looking like he wasn't aware of his surroundings, and they were taking him to the other facility that deals with the more violent patients.

That wasn't the last of the adventure for the evening. On the way home, we saw the cops had apprehended a guy in the local grocery parking lot, and had the contents of his car spread out on the asphalt; pretty obvious it was a drug bust. We get back to the church parking lot and one of the women that had been working on the church grounds says, "So what did Barb think of all the goings on?" Barb, what Barb. Turns out that one of the guys had taken one of the older ladies out to the nursing home that she told him to take her to, and dropped her off. Well, it wasn't the nursing home we were playing at. So, the Pastors wife is frantically calling all the only people that would know how to contact her. Now, this women has had bad legs since whe was in High School. It's painful for her to walk at all, but she always has a wonderful attitude. The Pastors wife finally gets hold of Barb's son-in-law, and he says, "She just walked in, looks really beat." (Now it's about 10 miles from the nursing home). He was joking. She had called her daughter and she came and picked her up. Funny huh? Turns out she went to the nursing home that was in the church bulletin, but that one is for next week. This was an unscheduled one that nobody knew about except the Worship Leader, who laid it on us Sunday. Oh well. Turned out OK. Everybody got a good laugh out of it.

Well, I got up and ran this morning. Decided to do 1/4 mile (400 meter) repeats. My repeats were only at about a 9:30 pace, but felt fast for me. I only ended up doing a little over 2 miles. I didn't want to overdo it to the point that I would be useless today. We've got a long day planned. Going to Friar Tucks (it's a beverage store),in the big city (Peoria - about 120,000 pop.) , maybe walk around in a Home Improvement store, go to Red Lobster, probably see a movie (DW really wants to see the Jersey Boys), and we usually end up at Barnes and Noble having a biscotti and coffee late in the evening. Probably doesn't sound all that exciting to the younger folks, but it works for us. We both love to look at magazines and books. I almost always end up buying some kind of musical theory or math book. I am a die hard DIY'er right down to the last topic. When I quit learning, I am probably already gone.

Well, that's all there is in the life and times of DK right now. Hoping everyone has a great day. Toodles!

aw that's sad...my grandmother had Alzheimer's and unfortunately these things do happen...I tried giving her a hug once and she slapped me across the face...it was awful...obviously she had no idea who I was and I scared her...sounds like an eventful evening!!

So are we to conclude your music incites crowds to riot? Just what the heck kind of head banging music were you playing? JK... I worked in NH for many years and there's no real explanation behind what causes that. So many adventures in one night and now you're going for another with late night biscotti. And you said *I* was the thrill seeker... Hmmm

I work in a nursing home, and just when I think I've seen it all, a resident comes up with something completely new. But I love all of my residents and am very happy to be here. We thankfully are not equipped to handle residents with violent behaviors. I don't handle that well. Your plans for the evening sounds similar to mine! We're taking my mom out for a belated birthday dinner. She is still deciding between Red Lobster or Olive Garden. Then we will spend the evening at Half Price Books (our favorite place to be) and will prob finish with a coffee from Starbucks.

Hi DK, I always enjoy reading your journal entries, but this one takes the cake (uhh, a very low carb, diet cake of course, hee hee). What a time you had! I'm glad it all worked out well in the end. Nursing homes can be very interesting places, for sure. Our oldest DD worked in one for awhile, & one time when everyone was rushing down to the river (at the back of the nursing home's propertY) to see some Canada geese that had landed there, on old guy bumped into another old guy, & their walkers got tangled up. They ended up fist fighting, & cursing at each other, as caregivers including DD tried to break them up. Most of the other residents stood watching the fight, having forgotten all about seeing the geese on the river, LOL! Thankfully no one was seriously hurt, & they did go on to see the geese, which soothed everyone's "feathers" down again, hee hee. I'm glad your gig went well otherwise, I know how much the older folks enjoy good music & just having people visit them. Now I'm craving blackberry pie! Our blackberries are just about ready for picking, IF we can get them before the birds & deer do. We plan to start picking them the SAT, then I'll be making us some blackberry pie too, low carb of course. Both my & my Hubby's b-days are this month, so while we were in the "big city" this past TUE, we went to the theater & saw "Meleficent". It was AWESOME! Does an excellent job of telling "the other side of the story" of Sleeping Beauty. You're doing great with keeping up on your healthy eating & exercise, so a little cheat occasionally helps keep you going, nothing to beat yourself up for. Have a great weekend! Blessings, Glammer

Thanks, Glammer. We saw Jersey Boys, and liked it, probably because we both grew up loving the music of Frankie Valie and the Four Seasons. Discovered a lot we didn't know about them. Love blackberry, blueberry, and raspberry pies. Then again, love coconut cream, boston cream, banana cream, cherry, apple, lemon, pumkin, and peach pie. Guess I just love pie. Glad I don't normally eat desert, or I'd be a lot bigger than I am now.

LOL, I love most pies too except blueberry & peach, & I love Danish even more than pie! Glad you enjoyed the movie, we haven't seen that one yet. I want to see it because I've actually met Frankie while living in San Diego. I used to go downtown with my Mom & Sis to see the filmings of some local TV variety shows in the '60's & early '70's, & saw many celebs & I have an autograph book full of their names. Frankie owned at least one big hotel, but I don't recall the name now. He is a very nice man, & once spent some time talking to me about copyright laws related to some songs I wrote. Hubby & I got to see a 2nd movie yesterday. We saw Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. We haven't seen 2 theater movies in one week in years, so it was a big treat for us, & even more so having both our oldest & youngest DD's with us, also for the 1st time in several years as our youngest just moved back down from living 350 miles away. That was a real birthday blessing for Dad & I. I hope you had a very happy b-day, sure sounds like you did.

Yep, we were undecided between the planet of the apes or Jersey Boys. I was actually leaning more toward the apes; thought it would be a little more exciting. DW was sold on Jersey Boys so that's what we saw. We'll see the other one eventually. Glammer, sounds like a great family weekend.
