* sigh * I got to experience one of the inherent trials of car ownership today. Car trouble. :( Thankfully DH is brilliant with his hands and knows a lot about cars. I am confident that if he isn't able to fix it readily on his own, he'll know what to do or where to go to get what is needed to get my wheels road worthy/ ready again. I feel more than a little dismayed though that I can't drive it. I discovered the issue when I was getting ready to go out tonight and the car couldn't even make it out of the parking pad. I was disappointed that yet again I am not able to make it to my friend's bible study, then I remembered I had a doctor's appointment tomorrow and felt more chagrin. Again fortunately DH had a resolution,(Ask mom.) and it proved fruitful. (My MIL is wonderful. I feel like I am blessed with the best one in the world.) Starting to do better with self control, with today being the best overall. During the day I tend to be fine, but dinner and beyond is my weakness. Maybe a bit of herd mentality at work? (Eating because I see other people doing the same etc.,? Anyhow, onward hopefully to keep this improvement trend going.

Awww, car problems are annoying and can de-rail plans suddenly. Great that self control is getting better, makes a person simply feel better about themselves.

Thanks WFN! I realize it all can be very much a balancing act of exercising autonomy and relinquishing the illusion/ drive for control. Today is proving more encouraging and I hope the car will be running again soon. :)

i get seriously hangry after i'm done work, like madly so. I fast in the morning with just having a cup of coffee, chewing some gum and a glass of V8 then at noon I start eating with lunch and usually have 1000 cals for supper and beyond. That works for me. Not for everyone but it works for me, so i thought I would share.

If you find you are really hungry at night, eat more during the day. When I don't eat enough during the day, especially protein, my appetite is ravenous at night. You're doing great! Keep it up :)

I don't know if it's appetite really as emotional eating because I think honestly it's not that I'm hungry. Still I did pretty well throughout the day yesterday- not 100% perfection, but ~80%/ solidly exercised self control and didn't feel stuffed (or at least I don't remember feeling that way). And my car is much better!!! The failure was due to excess rain getting to the ignition coil wires, causing the engine to misfire and not be able to idle. Hopefully the ignition trouble didn't destroy my catalytic converters since my car has 2 of them and that can be an expensive part.

I should clarify. By "appetite," I mean desire to eat, which can be for hunger or emotions. When I don't eat enough protein (even if I had enough calories), I'm really hungry - and it's not emotional eating; it's true hunger signals that my body is giving me because I didn't feed it the right amount of nutrients. If you make sure you eat adequately throughout the day, you might not be as hungry at night - emotionally or physically. For emotional hunger, try to only eat when you're physically hungry. To do this, when you get a craving, ask yourself if you are physically hungry or if it's an emotional craving. If it's an emotional craving, tell yourself that you will wait a little while longer, until you're hungry, and do something to distract yourself or to resolve your emotional need. Good luck!

Glad your car is recovered. I'm also starving by the time I get home at 4:30, gym days I have a peanut butter sandwich snack between work and there and some days don't want dinner when I finally get home. My lunch is at 10:30 most days so my body is simply ready for food.

Thanks Christy! In general I try to follow that anyway, but I will try to be more diligent that I've eating a healthful variety so that that is less of a contributing factor. Also, I'm dismayed to learn I was wrong. DH was able to restore one of the 2 non-firing cylinders, but the engine is still not fully functional. :( I'm not sure yet what work is entailed yet, but I'm going to find out soon.
