Definitely harder to eat right when you're away from home and on holiday. Two weeks driving around the Lake District and then the Scottish Highlands has certainly tested my healthy eating goals, with restaurants/cafes offering mostly high fat and/or high sugar stuff, and only minimal protein or complex carbs. Asked for bowls of steamed veg and to have any sauces on the side, and supplemented my intake with packets of cooked meats or Promax bars. Not ideal but at least do-able. The upside has been masses of exercise -- walking, hill-climbing and jogging in spectacular countryside. Now we've got 4 weeks of house-renovating and garden landscaping ahead of us, which will be good exercise with regular hill walking in the surrounding hills. But really looking forward to being able to plan and organise my food properly again!

I felt a little of the same this weekend; I was away and all of my meals were from restaurants although I COULD have gone to the store and picked up some of my normal 'home foods' I just wanted to relax and be waited on. If I'd been gone longer... yeah, I'd have had to get something beside restaurant food too.

Sticking to healthy eating would definitely be easier if we all just stayed home and had nothing else to do! The hardest bit, apart from the restaurants, was staying with my mother-in-law! Losing weight through eating lots of good stuff, rather than just starving yourself, is totally foreign to her generation. So she was pretty sceptical about me losing weight by eating five times a day. Luckily there's undeniable evidence from the scales and increasingly slimmer me, as well as my having the energy to run every morning, mow her garden and sort out everyone's laundry before they were even up!
