skirch97's Journal, 06 August 2013

While I was on vacation, I took the kids to see my mom at work so she could show off her grandbabies. She had her desk lifted (it is a u shaped desk similar to mine) and works most of the time standing, but does have a tall chair if she chooses to sit. A lot of people in her office are doing various forms of standing while working, so I went around and checked them all out. Yesterday I was so restless sitting all day at my desk. So today I am improvising a "standing" desk. I got a box a bit longer than a paper box, but the same height and have my keyboard and mouse on it. I really like typing and standing. The only con right now I can see, is the area I have elevated is not that large, so putting papers on it to work won't be an option or having my adding machine up here. So I'll still need to sit for some things, but at least I have the option to stand! Last year a co-worker and I tried out the standing thing but bosses weren't on board to get us different desks or permanently alter our current desks, so I'll just do this improvisation for now.

Yeah!!! I read that people who do this are waaaay less likely to have heart issues and lose and/or maintain a much healthier weight. Good for you to take the steps to do what you need to improve your working environment. Good for you!!!! I have placed a pedaling machine under my desk. It seems to be working out ok. My legs are barking sometimes, but I don't mind. Pain in only weakness leaving the body, right.....

I know I have read a lot of things on how sitting all day is not good for your health! A pedaling machine under the desk, that's a good idea!
