One can always hope that despite a few small relapses the scale will still tip in her way . . . NOT!

Okay, here is where I got off the driven path

1. WINE . . I love it but cannot drink it and lose weight. It also makes food taste so much better that I tend to grab one more piece a little too often.

2. POPCORN . . . that damned popcorn machine calls me whenever I am back in that area of the store. It smells warm, buttery, inviting. I ate more this week. I think this dreary weather is getting to me and I feel bored and out of sorts and it makes me want comfort food more. Also there are always other people back there with a cup of popcorn talking and it is easy to want to be part of the comraderie.

3. Superbowl. . .I am so not a football person but I was invited to a friends. I brought my chili . . which I really like, but I did not bring the low/no fat condiments that I eat. I brought whole cheese, regular sour cream, regular taco chips because "for just this afternoon" it will be okay. Well, it all adds up folks!

So, this has gotten me to think about maintenance . . and what a joke that must be. ReALLY!! You diet for months and have a hard time losing even a half pound many weeks and then all of a sudden because you have reached goal weight, you can start eating until you find the amount of points where you gain weight???!!! I am no rocket scientist but I would venture to say any amount of points is going to put that weight back on. I guess this must be the shining light at the end of the tunnel to keep you going, but I can't see how maintenance works. You are either on the program and losing, or off and gaining it back. Is our metabolism supposed to change or what?? If we didn't have sluggish metabolisms we would not be here in the first place.

Just a thought because I am not happy that I gained a little weight back much less didn't lose.

I'm still in for the haul. Just wish I wasn't haulin' so much!

Don't lose heart. I think that maintenance will work. It isn't the same as binging so won't affect us the same way, either. When you get your body in a losing zone and throw a bunch of high fat, high salt junk into it, it is going to rebel. Just as we lose a whole bunch of water weight the first few weeks on plan, that water weight can come back. Don't think that you gained back .6 lbs of fat. I am sure it is water weight. You have to eat 3500 calories more than you burn to gain one pound. Once you reach your goal and start to ease into eating more points, you won't be eating chili, cheese and corn chips all the time. You will still be eating healthy most of the time. The "light at the end of the tunnel" is that you will be able to indulge on occasion. Your body also won't need as much food to burn so your appetite will shrink along the way as well. The reality is that the lifestyle of eating whatever we want whenever we want it is what got us to where we are now. If we want to get thin and stay thin, we have to accept that we can't go back to that way of life. Ever. We have to choose health over a life that revolves around food. Food is our drug of choice. We have to stop being dependant on it. We can do this. It is a difficult row to hoe. But we can do it!
