Diana 1234's Journal, 04 June 2023

My nutritionist suggested that I add Phytonutrient foods to my food plan. They help build immune system and act like a prebotic to promote gut health. It is a cleaner diet but I love all these foods so easy for me. We are tracking carbs but not a focus.

💚PERFECT. I eat all of those (though ginger and mustard only as condiments 😄). Eating more of these foods will hopefully crowd out the inflammatory foods (dairy, red meat). Haven't been sick in 20 years, no arthritis or aches/pains. Are you and Joe trying it out together? (I remember you mentioning that Joe is the grocery shopper.)

I don't see mushrooms -- is it just cut off here or is that intentional?

I would like to add that heat destroys nutrients. Higher, longer, destroys more. So choose the ones you can eat raw

Most of these foods I eat regularly, some daily. They shoud be easy to incorporate into your diet if you aren't already eating them .

Supergainz, She did encourage me to eat what I can raw. The exceptions for me are sweet potato, onions, and cauliflower. I'm trying to barely cook them though. I'm still maintaining 100+ grams of protein but trying to not eat processed meat right now. I did have a protein shake but that's it. I love fruits and vegetables so hopefully this will help me build up some immunity in my body.. Starting back again at gym tomorrow. Have had a week of home workouts but just not the same as gym. My equipment at home is limited.

Sherrye, I do eat quite a few of my list but this is including them in every meal as well as a healthy choice of meats and fat. It's not to hard cuz they are yummy but the amount is more than I'm used to. Weight is up again but nutritionist says not to look at weight because of water retention from steroids and even the amount of veggies I'm eating carry water so it's not an accurate measure at this time. She wants me to wait 2 weeks to weigh but don't think I can go that long. I'm aiming for 1week...💜 Jb, I enjoy everything on list but I will admit that I'm eating larger portions than before in order to get what I need. I still eat meats but they need to be mostly unprocessed. I feel full due to fiber in veggies and so far I've been fairly successful. You asked about mushrooms, they were not on list. Not sure why.

Diana: giving up the deli meat, bacon, sausage, brats, etc. will be so helpful! I saw legumes (beans, lentils, split peas), and those are great on salads as a protein option. I think it's great that your nutritionist is putting emphasis on getting your micronutrients built up. Too much time missed in the gym if you're always fighting the next infection.

With the exception of bok choy and high glycemic fruits which I eat more sparingly; I include all on that list routinely. Big raw salads work best for me. Not a fan of processed meat. Upping my lean meat, helps me to keep the carbs down. Wishing you success with this and hope you can get back to your typical gym routine very soon since you love it!

This is great Diana; hope you see results soon.

Shirl Thanks and glad to see you are feeling better 💜 Tonyyyyyy, My nutritionist didn't mention them but I'll look into that! 👍 Losintown, I lost most of my weight by eating a mostly clean diet. (60 lbs) I don't mind it and in fact at my age and my autoimmune issues, I find it helpful. For me, once I was in maintenance I found it hard to sustain. I too love big salads and that's what I had for dinner all ng with a grass fed steak. You are right, I can't wait to get back to weightlifting. It makes me happy!!👍💜💪

Love this list and everything on it! So you can eat anything here and not worry about counting towards your carb intake?

Red porch, Yes and no. I can eat whatever I want off list and nutritionist isn't concerned about carbs right now. I have replaced so many of the high carb, processed foods that I was eating with the raw veggies and other items on list that I'm still staying within my 100 grams a day of carbs. She is also looking at net carbs which she normally doesn't with carb intake. A lot of the veggies have quite a bit of fiber. She did text me this morning and wants me to include a bigger post lunch snack with more raw vegetables as raw gives you the best results. One thing I've already noticed is the brain fog seems to be lifted. Could be a combination of getting better and foods but I'll take it! I'm loving it so far. Yes there is more prep work but so far it's been good. I am still striving for 100+ grams of protein and 40-59 grams of fat. I need to up my RDI as it is to low.

Jb, I forgot to answer your question about Joe. In Sat he had Italian sausage and peppers. I had a veggie and chicken sir fry.Sunday we had grass fed steaks and a huge salad, his without kale..so sometimes he's on biard, sometimes I'm making 2 different meals. At least I had prepped a bunch of vegetables before hand so my stir fry was pretty easy to put together.

I have Lupus SLE, I am going to try that.

SDmc, I have Hashimotis and CCPD ( It's often called pseudo gout but my build up is calcium, not uric acid) and I've been told by my endocrinologist that a more pure, plant based diet would be helpful for my joints. I followed that ( although I do eat a good amount of protein because I weight lift) for a few years and lost 60 lbs. I felt really good but once I got to the maintenance phase I didn't sustain it as it became hard to do. Its a commitment but; f you plan and prep it's not bad. I love all the foods on that list so good for me! It's best to eat raw as much as you can because to much heat kills the nutrients. Good luck and keep posting results! 💜👍

Diana actually some vegetables release more antioxidants and nutrients when cooked. Carrots is on that list. Many crucifous vegetables also release more nutrients when slightly steamed before eating.

Honey, I did know that. I do eat a lot of baby carrots raw but I also lightly steam them. I steam or roast cauliflower as well. Thanks for the info💜

I believe veggies are vitamins!!! I need to eat more. 🙄

I didn't even know what a phytonutrient diet was, yet I've been eating good amounts of those foods on your list for years. Guess I was "with it" and totally oblivious to it. :)
