Never thought of it, never considered this. Why would you do this! Is there a nutritional benefit?

They contain a lot of calcium and apparently one absorb the calcium from the eggshells better than some other sources. Not an expert but some internet pages claim this. I am always into things giving good bone health

And since I eat eggs this would be a free supplement

I know I don't get enough calcium. Sometimes I'll chew on a couple of tums. Let us know how it goes with the egg shells

I’ve heard of fertilizing plants w this or dried banana peels but never thought of eating them myself. I’m going to research this. Interesting topic.

they are edible, and it would give you calcium and is used in nutritional supplements. skip the boiling and just do the oven bit, that's enough to kill anything.

why don't you give them to the chickens? people feed oyster shells to chickens to thicken the shell of eggs and make for better eggs in the long run.

you can also use your hard-boiled egg water for fertilizer for your plants.

I do water my plants with egg water and compost eggshells as well as grind up dry eggshells to add directly to the soil (for tomatoes)

Xena, I wish I had chickens. Growning up on a ranch, we fed our chickens all kinds of scraps. They enjoyed the watermelon rinds the most, I think. Alas, living in the city now so pretty much a no dice on the hens.

LIV001, We don't worry too much about the drying. In the month or so before planting season, we start a collection of shells. They pretty much dry out in the container (old cottage cheese container works ok. When ready to plant seeds or starts, we crush up the shells and add them to the planting hole. Every since we started doing that, the tomatoes have been noticeably more productive.

Those are good ideas Johnny. I am new to gardening. This will be my first year going all out having moved to a country spot. I love the recycling here. Everything can have other uses. #SoMuchToLearn

🤣 I've done that! It was too much work. But it sure does release the calcium!
