MrsRatfire's Journal, 11 June 2014

Well I injured my hip, thigh and back. yesterday and I am down for the count with pain. Have to get to drug store to fill scrips, so I must push through it and go in a few hours. I have my Fitbit on, and even the very light activity I have today, will eventually get me to break even of calories or a very small deficit. Not really to convened about that. A break even would be fine.

I have a medical problem that causes injury to my muscles, even without a fall or over exerting. My muscles spasm by themselves and yesterday, it got bad. I am in too much pain to drive to De. and get a cortisone shot in my hip. Using a heating pad and pain relief- helps some but muscles have to recover. My injury, although the muscles pull by themselves, is identical to an overworked athlete or injury. It is an injury without the accident!

Makes me blue, but I will be fine. My calories are in line yesterday and they will be today too. It is nice to have a problem and no longer use food to feel better. That makes this site worth more than gold!

I can walk, but every step hurts. Torso, lower back, thigh and hip went into spams yesterday. Too long of a day. Too much driving and my body can't take that. It will get better. Thanks, all, for always being here.

How about a warm bath with epsom salts? Wonderful stuff. Take care.

That helps too. Anything you think helps does. Thanks for the reminder.

I use an ice pack to reduce swelling and then rub IcyHot cream on it. Hang in there!

Recovery and body care are your most important tasks until you are better.

So sorry to hear that. Take care of yourself and if I lived your way, I'd take you to get that cortisone shot. I don't know what could help you but you are doing so great at motivating all of us so I hope you are keeping that motivation up for yourself. My husband injured himself today too but his accident was sheer stupidity. Feel better!

How nice, all of you! My husband had an eye injury 2 days ago and he still can't see very well. So he could not drive me. I still walked indoors with my FitBit and managed to do enough steps to burn 2000 calories. Understand, at my height and weight, it really is not much. I did not think I would do it, but by early evening, the pain was more manageable. But you made me think of one thing. I wonder if my doctor wrote me a letter, would the ER give me a shot of cortisone in the hip? There are several ER's VERY close to me, but my doc is at least 30 minutes one way or more depending on traffic. Thanks for all the kind words, all of you. I have ice packs and heating pads and everything under the sun for muscle recovery as this is an on going disorder that is not curable. But like all disorders, if you take measures to help it and work on it...it all adds up! Guess it is like dieting. So for me, starting to walk continuously is a big step. The reason I am doing it indoors for now is that if I spasm I could fall. It has happened. I fell off my bike a few times and was laying in the street- fortunately, I had a cell phone and called my husband to come and collect me. Like anything, I do believe I can build it up in time and eventually, will be able to handle more. Thanks all....it helps to know you are all there!

Do you have a cane to use when this happens? I have one for when knees or ankles act up, for stability: I used to use it often. It's just one I picked up in a thrift store one day when I was having trouble walking. I'd rather have cool walking stick :)) Hope you feel better soon.
