girlygirlatheart's Journal, 23 March 2009

Its Monday (evening).

I have decided I am not going to weigh myself for a couple of weeks. Maybe more or less, but its going to be awhile. Getting on the scale just depresses me. I'm going to give it some time.
Plus, every scale everywhere (my house, doctor's office) says different things. We now have three scales in my house and they all say different things! Uggghhh! one said I weighed 163, another said 166, and our newest one says 170! Wth?!?!?!??

I am feeling much better about eating, so now arises a new challenge: Working Out again.
Its not that I dont want to. Nope. I am excited about getting up tomorrow and exercising. Hopefully, I will feel well enough to do my calisthenics and strength training. Time to get rid of the jiggles!

As far as cardio goes, I have been doing Lesie Sansone DVD's. I have two 4 mile ones, and a 5 mile one. They all have jogging in them, so I feel like I put out a good sweat.

I love doing them because they always warm up first. I can start slow and ease my way into the work out. This is a great trick on those days that I dont feel like exercising at all. When I work out on my own (on the treadmill or on the elliptical), I start out too fast and furious. I dont pace myself, if you know what I mean. I cant seem to teach myself how to do that.
I just hope the DVD's are giving me a good or better work out than I would get by just walking, jogging, and/or running on the treadmill.

I have three Turbo Jam DVD's but I have yet to do a full work out's worth. I hate complicated steps and maneuvers when it comes to exercise. Thats another reason why I love the "walk at home" series. Anyone can do the movements. Turbo Jam... eh, so far, I cant get it down, but I have only tried it once or twice. I might fool around with it some more tomorrow.

I am finding out that after I eat fruits and vegetables, i'm hungry again in a short amount of time. It makes sense, since a lot of vegetables are made up of primarily water.
I know when I eat whole grain carbs with a lot of fiber (like an English muffin, bagel or oatmeal) and pair it with some healthy fat like almond butter, I stay full way longer.
What are some other foods I can eat that will keep me full for a long time?

I'm pretty happy and thankful that my IBS has settled down. I can eat vegetables again with out feeling like I am going to explode. YAY! Its definitely something to be happy about.

You sound GOOD!!! You have a reasonable plan and I look forward to hearing about your progress. Kudos to you for swearing off the scale for a bit. Protein always sticks a bit longer with me ... and something with some good fat in it also works, like avocado.

I hear ya with the scales. The one at my gym tells me 177, while the one at planned parenthood told me 170? I am too scared to get on any other scale! You have IBS? I have Crones. Kinda similar. Mine has been getting worse, but this whole recording what you eat is helping me see what works and what hurts. Good luck with everything! Keep going strong! Don't worry about numbers-- it's all about how you feel. :)

It's not all about the weight. Take into account the inches you've lost. That's what's helping me. I try not to dwell on the weight lost/gain and be happy than I'm losing inches. Losing inches=clothes fitting better!

if you eat carbs alone (especially simple carbs like white bread and fruit), you'll be hungry in 1-1.5 hours. If you eat protein alone, you'll be hungry in 1.5 hours. If you mix carbs and protein, it'll take 4 hours to digest. Fats usually take 3.5 hours. it's usually good to have a balanced meal each time.

fiber and protein do it for me! good for you for listening to your body. it doesnt tell you it is hungry for no reason. :)

mmmm. I tend to eat protein alone and it takes me about 4 hours to feel hungry again.
