Jess cheng's Journal, 26 January 2014

Last night I made 5 dozen beautiful cupcakes for a party at my daughters basketball game to celebrate grandparents day. Well.... This morning I had to help out at the party, and I ate one of my donuts and I also ate a cheese danish. I also ate a chocolate chip cookie that my toddler shoved in my face. Besides the party the rest of my day was healthy eating. However, now I have to burn off all those excess calories and hopefully some of the guilt. Im allowed a little splurge once in a blue moon arent I??? Ughhhh I guess not if I plan to lose weight.... Seriously though, I know that I am going to pay for this when it comes time to weigh in at the end of week 2. It is a good thing that I do not attend many parties during the year because even when I start off strong (1st 2hrs I was avoiding the bad stuff) my willpower is not that tough.... YET. Im getting better (if I would have eaten everything I normally would have... I would have gained back 5lbs and then some).
Positive points... I have been avoiding fast food. (I was eating it every day). I have not had soda in awhile either. I have been eating at least one salad every day (this is good because it fills me up and its healthy and low in calories). These are small changes that over time will really help me to maintain my weight loss. I do have a gym membership but it is difficult to get there often. My hubby as offered to buy me a piece of exercise equipment to use at home. I particularly like the stepper at the gym and it burns a ton of calories compared to everything else (I also have a.treadmill at home but its buried in my basement under a bunch of other crap, so maybe I will dig that back out too.)

You will survive the junk at the party, I have eaten more than my fair share of junk since I started lol. Keep watching the calories, and definitely get active. I think being active was my saving grace in a lot of poor eating situations... like the from thanksgiving to new years lol. I, too, am struggling to make time for the gym because the bad weather we have had causes cancellations for the schools which changes my work schedule and its a big ol mess. I need to figure out how to make it work, and stop making excuses. Great job giving up the pop, I gave it up too and never looked back. Fast food is also a no-go for me, for the most part. Once in a blue moon, ya know. Anywho, keep up the good work, and keep your chin up!

I understand how you feel. I am lucky that I don't have to go to parties. My daughter is grown up. As long as I keep stuff out of the house I am fine. Well, I am working on eating out. Actually I have been doing good at that too. Jess you sound like you are doing fine. I go to the gym and swim. Because of injuries I cannot use the machines. But, I also walk around my back yard fence line everyday, which is about 1/2 acre. Just remember, we all need a treat every so often.

I think you are on the right track. You are avoiding the fast foods and soda. Plus adding that salad a day is good too. Small steps make a difference. I allow myself a splurge and just do an extra 15 minutes. It certainly worked for me cause I am dropping. As long as you make that next meal a healthy one, you are good. And go ahead and dig that treadmill out. Keep it up and you will succeed.

We all tend to focus on "bad" food but I keep reminding myself that the times I have looked and felt the best were the times when I was doing a daily exercise plan. I used to run 3 miles/day (at least 5 days a week). I can't do that anymore because of joint issues but I am working on building up time on the treadmill which I have right in front of a TV. Once the weather is better, it's back outside. Also, remember that guilt is a useless emotion. It does nothing for you. Take it one minute at a time, if that's what you need to do and try to listen only to positive thoughts.
