Kenna Morton's Journal, 30 August 2019

For the Disney nay sayer: yes, you can call Anaheim a company town if you like. I get it, politics is politics but I want to tell you that I have called Disney public relations, as a ER nurse with a dying child on my hands, and have relayed that information to their person on the phone and that all that kid wanted was Goofy, and Goofy was there within thirty minutes. No photographers or press, just my kid who died in the arms of his Goofy.

Thank you for a beautiful, although sad, post. Your career is so appreciated by me. My daughter and her husband lived near the children's hospital down there and as we drove home at night we could see the littles in their rooms, broke my heart. Disney is my favorite place to visit while in the area! (and grillthemall)

Most people have absolutely no idea what the DISNEY CO and the Disney employees do to support our city and children all over the world.

Kenna- What's the craziest thing you have dealt with at work? Please don't tell me if it has to do with child abuse. I cannot handle such things- but otherwise- is there something that sticks out as your craziest day?

I don't know much about the company, but that is beautiful. What I do know is what a huge impact health care professionals have at a children's hospital. My youngest daughter was hit by a car as she crossed the road and has spent so much time treated at Seattle childrens. Anyone of you who cares enough to help a kid is such a hero to me. Love makes the difference.

DP— over 44 years there have been hundreds of those days when I thought that this is it— this is the craziest day ever, but I think a couple o& events that really made an impression on me occurred during my first couple of months at BIG LA County- USC Medical center. I was just 17. My very first baby I ever saw born was a cyclops— that pretty well blew me away.. Another baby was a harlequin— one head and two faces, a really beautiful child. Neither of these conditions are survivable. Then There was the man who came into the ER for abdominal pain and delivered a baby. He was a hermaphrodite who physically looked male, had a very tiny penis, but biologically he was female and all of his functional sex organs were female. He was not quite playing with a full deck— a little simple to say the least. He was actually from the hills of Virginia or Ozarks somewhere.. He didn't have a clue what was going The biggest WOW moment was when I worked in a pediatric ICU. We had a little girl who was essentially dead after coming down with meningitis. She was on a ventilator but technically dead because she had no brain function. The mom had been a nun and had converted to the Mormon religion and her husband had been a priest and had converted as well. Mom was going over the edge with guilt thinking that God was taking her child to punish her. So while both churches worked with the parents, we maintained the child’ living status using life support. Dad worked nights and would bring mom in to stay during the night. She would kneel on the ground praying till morning. One night she just jumps up and stated that God just spoke to her and everything was good. Then she went out to the pay phone to call hubby to come to the hospital to be their when the kid woke up. We thought that was a pretty good idea. While mom was out, suddenly all the alarms went off and there was crazy commotion in the back room. We all ran into the girls room and she had sat up and pulled her trach out.. docs.all came and we got the kid calmed down. Once she was able to talk with us she said she didn’t want to come back but God told her that her time had not yet come and she needed to return. For several days she did not recognize her parents or understand that they had any significance in her life, but slowly her memory returned and her knowledge of her time on the other side faded. All the body damage and organ injury and evidence of meningitis were gone. She was discharged home within a week.
