Yesterday was a horrible day physically. I got no sleep the night before due to intense acid reflux that only worsened as the day progressed. The pain when swallowing left me under hydrated because I was only taking one sip of water every 15 minutes or so all day. I had earned a rest day from exercising all days last week, so that was good. However, I failed to get my calorie intake due to how badly I felt. Pretty much no steps at all. Just listless, in pain, and taking acid reducer meds and ginger tea.
So weighing in today really is bittersweet. I love the scale, but it reflects water loss more than anything else. My body needs to heal. I may swim a few very slow laps today to stretch my muscles and have some resistance and focus on hydrating.

This may be the phase where I really work to see changes on the scale even as my body shows them every day. I feel so much better, more agile, healthier skin, less winded, more energy and simply happier. I often have said to people when I look at my arms and see the wrists I remember as a girl, that makes me happy. That's because my muscles in my forearms were defined, and I loved that. I always found them pretty. When I'm fit, that is the case.
I am very close to having lost 14 pounds. Yet gaining my muscle is just as important. If I replace the fat with muscle, I don't care what the scale says. Body fat percentage and how I feel tells me everything.
I go into today knowing tonight tis pizza night, so I give myself the two pieces of cheese pizza that otherwise is not on my menu. In the mean time, I'm shoving spinach, strawberries, cantaloupe, hummus, egg whites, flax seed, Gree yogurt, lentils, and black beans into my body for good fuel. I love them all. There is no deprivation.
Today, I remembered a note to my mother that simply said, "20 years" because when I wrote it, she'd been cancer free for twenty years. Diagnosed with breast cancer at 48, she beat it. Although gliblastoma took her from me, I recall what would have been lost had we not had those 20 years with her. Such memories and love afforded me and most importantly my son. He's sixteen now, but he has the deep bonds with her I had with my grandmother. She will forever shape him, and that is everything to me.
Namaste.
