Yesterday I completed my longest fast to date (72 hrs). I do not plan on ever doing a fast that is longer. The studies mostly show that anything above a 72 hour fast is not as effective in benefits as that first 72 hours. I felt fine the first day with a mild grumbly in my stomach for about 15-20 minutes. Then after that first 12 hours I had no more feelings of emptiness or any rumblings at all. At the beginning of the second 24 hours I was feeling very happy and content (which that phase of any fast always gives me). This is the phase where the bowel begins to empty out contents that do not like to come out in a regular diet and abstinence schedule. That increased the healthy feeling inside. By the 3rd and last 24 hour period I was feeling really good with all kinds of energy. I am not really healthy enough for exercise but I had to do something so I put on earphones and moved to music in the chair for almost 3 hours! (I called it "chair dancing" hahaha). I texted my wife aat work and told her that it was so strange that after not eating for so long I was feeling so good. At the end of 72 hours, I knew I could have gone longer but I promised myself that I would not force so much out of my body at one time since the benefits drop off so much after that amount of time. I broke my fast with some chicken breast, cheese, and some raw almonds and unsweetened shredded raw coconut mixed in a snack jar. (the portion was about 40 nuts with the coconut that came up in my spoon as I dipped into the jar. :-)

I'm in the midst of a 72-hour fast attempt. I tried before and I got to 60 hours. I had some hunger pangs so I stopped it. I always know I can stop it any time after 16 hours so it doesn't scare me or make me feel defeated when I don't make a goal fast number of hours. I feel great now and I am a little over 24 hours. No hunger at this time. I will weigh myself at the end of this fast (whenever that will be).
