I didn't really get serious about diet and exercise until mid October since I live in SW Louisiana where it's hot and humid about 2/3 of the year. So the fact is that through five-mile walks and pretty good (but not perfect, lol) discipline on the food intake, I've lost 23 pounds in four months. Yay!!
My goal is to lose another 20 and get down to the low 150's. I'm 5'8" tall and 64 years old. I feel ten years younger! Going for 20, lol!

Despite my intentions, I didn't really "get physical" about the exercise element of getting fit until October. But here it is mid-January already -- and I have lost 19 pounds in four months!
I started fitness walking again in October and am up to 5 miles every other day. ("Jane Fonda's Walkout" cassettes are classic, and just as effective as they were back in the 80s when they were made. Jane, my Walkman and I have a great time, and it's a fun 45 minutes that happens to have huge physical benefits.
On the alternate days I do toning and strength exercises to my old Cynthia Kereluk vids. And because of the commitment I've made to getting fit, I've changed my diet dramatically. Far more vegetables. Lean meats like fish & chicken dominate my protein choices. Fresh fruit and yogurt. Salads at least four times a week, and bottled water is my beverage.
My big belly is now nearly gone! My legs and arms are getting toned, and believe me this is not a burden. I won't pretend that I'll never eat another cheeseburger, but I'm feeling pretty motivated right now. I'll post again in mid-February with another update.

I bumped into this site today by asking "the internet" how many calories in bing cherries. Hello, Fate!
Most of my adult life I've had a fluctuating weight. At 5'8", my "healthy weight" would normally be between 140 and 150. Then I hit my late 50s, and it's been a steady incline ever since. This August I'll be 64, and my weight today is 196 lbs.
It used to be easy for me to lose weight, but I seem to have lost my motivation. I want to regain my healthy habits and increase my physical activity levels, not only because I hate the way I look, but because I want (need) to be healthy as I get older.
