I am a 28 year old mother of one,and I was a chronic dieter for a lot of years. I would go from one diet to the next, with binges in between diets.
I have been dangerously skinny and decidedly overweight, but most of the time I am at the point where I just "need to lose a few pounds".
I have had a hard time being happy with my body in the past, something I still struggle with.
I now do not go on actual diets, but I make efforts toward healthy eating. I count calories, but I am trying not to get obsessive with it as I have in the past.
I want to get in better shape, and get in the habit of eating well, while making conscious efforts to by less junk and eat healthier food.

GIVE UP the Diet Soda!!
When I drank it a LOT, I think it did contribute to cravings some. But like gnat said, I have a sweet tooth without it. I do think drinking mostly water makes me feel better, and I do not buy diet soda except when we are at a restaurant or to bring to a family gathering when I am not sure if there will be anything low cal for me to drink(or eat!).
I think it's ok in moderation. It can be an addiction, I have been there, and the chemicals it it are not good for your bones.

Home cooked foods and calories
I use a scale now for meats and veggies. I thought it would make me obsessive but it actually helps me relax about what I am eating because I am more sure of the portions. Usually you can come up with a good estimate from either recipes online or things from this site.

Enough Protein Doing Weight Watchers
You probably will gain some back if you were on a low carb, this is because carbs and water bind together, so if you are suddenly eating a lot more carbs, you will have some water weight come on. I Did South Beach and then switched to a WW style of eating and I gained back everything, but then it tapered off and I lost it again, more slowly but it came off.
The average person only needs 10-25% of their diet from protein, so you probably dont need to be too concerned about getting enough. Most Americans eat more protein than they need.
