Hi everyone :-)! My name is Jess, a 28 year old living in Philly. I've be married for eight years to my wonderful husband Martin! Joined the site mostly because I've been struggling with my weight since being married. I love him, but you know how it is... "Honey, try this!" Or he tries to be thoughtful and bring chocolate back home with him. I swear in our first two years, all we did was dine out. Yes, he has a lot of meat on his bones too!

I have fertility issues other than my obesity. The last thing you think about in your early twenties is (in)fertility, you know? I thought of either of us, it would be more on his side (he's older than I am). But we talked about adoption before we were even engaged (in addition to any children we had), so we'll do just that :-) It hurt for a long time to not have any of our own biological ones. But I think G-d planned this all along. I have an amazing gift with kids, and maybe this is how I'm supposed to experience motherhood. And my husband is pretty great with kids too, so I guess this was his path all along as well!

Just a bit of info- LOVE dancing and music (obsessed with Zumba!), movies, video games, hanging out, taking care of kids, etc.

Affording the food for a healthier me..help?

My hubby isn't a picky eater by any means, but he sometimes gives me issues about buying healthier foods. He's trying to mentally prepare himself to lose weight with me. I understand that you have to be at a place and believe that 'enough is enough.' So in the meantime, we compromise.

We didn't like whole grain pasta (tastes like cardboard to us lol), so we switched to the ones made from spinach and tomato; additionally it gives you a half serving of pasta per portion. Costs the same as a regular box of pasta anyways! If you buy fresh fruits and veggies, especially from a farmer's market, it's way cheaper than supermarkets. I know if we ever have babies, I will be pureeing the majority of their baby food.

Oh and people LOVE my turkey burgers- most can't even tell it's not beef.

Also when I prepare my homemade mac and cheese, I put some cauliflower in it now. It's SO good! There is a cookbook from Jessica Seinfeld called Deceptively Delicious. Most of the recipes are AMAZING! Her chicken strips are to DIE FOR!!! I now crave that chicken more than fried chicken! However that is not the cheapest route to go.

Oh as far as adding more vegetables into your diet, you can buy baby food purees and add them to many dishes! And it saves time, cleaning, prep, dishes, etc. I will be doing this on our next shopping trip!

Will losing weight really make you happy?

I consider myself a strong, independent woman. I am losing weight for my health. However, I would be lying if I didn't want to look better as well. As long as you understand that the main reason to lose weight is to feel better and be healthier, wanting to look better isn't a bad thing. You just can't become obsessed with it.

Perfect, you said what all of us are thinking- thank you!
