trackin64's Journal, 11 June 2016

Back to LCHF and IF as of Thursday. Made it to 18 hrs fasting, something I didn't think I could do. That gives me confidence that I could eventually get to a 24-hr fast, especially once I am in fat-burning mode. In the past my blood sugar swings would have made that impossible.

The inner rebel is popping up its evil head, saying, "You're going to have to do this forever or you'll gain back weight, and probably all of it. I hate restrictions! It's in my nature to be free. It's not normal to have to impose limits on eating." The grounded, rational part of me argues back, "You and your concepts been running the show for far too long and that has only made me obese and pre-diabetic. You've just about caused me to lose all hope of ever returning to normal weight and staying there. I'm going to override your ideas of what's 'normal' and 'natural.' Move over (and preferably out) - I'm adopting new habits now. Normal is long overdue for a change!"

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! My FS friends are my rock!

You go girl! I'm finding a new normal myself. Embrace the change and nothing can cage you ever again. Proud of you and your determination.

Thanks FTC! I wish the 5:2 worked better for me but I seemed to be just spinning my wheels. I think it might be great for my maintenance program but there will probably always have to be an element of low-carb included. Time, and experimentation, will tell.

I just came off 32 hours fasted, it was awesome. I made guacamole again this morning and nibbled a little as I did, might have ended up eating a couple of pieces of chopped onion, tomato, avocado, and cilantro, not many calories but it counts. I'm not planning on eating again for a while.

Trackin, I may be joining you on the return, today I'm going to do a planned carb spike meal at a Mexican Restaurant, this will be my first time to completely take the plunge into a carb spike and go for a 300 carb spike. My first two bump up attempts really had no impact so today, we go all out. If I have another no impact or actually have a gain I will be satisfied that carb spikes do not work for me. End of the experiment. Here's to hoping I have no binge fallout!

@philmck - excellent! What's the longest fast you've done?
11 Jun 16 by member: trackin64
@debrafrederick - I'll be interested in hearing how it went. For me, even the modest carb spikes I got while doing 5:2 caused weight gain plus a lot of inflammation probably from WHAT I was eating as much as anything else. You're a lot farther down the path of healing metabolic resistance - you give me hope!

I've gone a full 48 hours before breaking fast. I want to push it to 72 hours, I might try during Knuckles IF Beast Mode challenge.

@all the fasters - don't you think fasting changes your relationship with food and hunger for the better? Something like, "Ok, I'm hungry but I have a choice, eat or don't eat, because the hunger will pass even if I don't eat." Voila, no longer a slave to appetite!

Well, your evil thoughts have lots of company. The one thing that has been so obvious to me, is most everyone needs a site like this, and we may all need to stay here for life. Some have it tougher than others, but no gets a free pass. lol Good luck!

That is a freedom that we have always had, but failed to utilize and failed to appreciate. We were taught to eat, to eat everything that we put on our plate, we were taught that food was a privilege that we had and others were not so fortunate to have so much, so we should never waste it. (As if us making pigs of ourselves benefited those starving children in China) Hence, we feel obligated to eat what is offered, as many times as it is offered for fear of seeming rude, ungracious and lacking in gratitude. You are right Trackin, it changes our relationship with food, the chains that bind us to eating so much and so often have been broken.
