Sundance didn't cheat's Journal, 15 October 2007

Feeling great after two weeks of GI foods. Bought a steamer this weekend and amazed how easy that makes food preparation. Also bought an exercise bike, so no more sitting on the sofa infront of the TV of an evening. Now cycling... in front of the TV (well it's progress isn't it?!)

Got a Low GI cookbook this weekend also, as need a bit of variety after living on grilled chicken and veg for a fortnight. A bit taken aback at how many of the recipes "cheat".

The cook books I bought are great, and give lots of good ideas for a bit of variety (also lots of photo's which help a novice like me in the kitchen).... but when you look at the ingredients, a lot of the recipes use substantial portions of high GI foods. I know that sometimes fats/ flour are needed for baking, but a lot of these recipes seem to sacrifice the Low GI concept in favour of flavour. I have a always had a terrible sweet tooth, so I recoiled when I saw recipes requiring a huge amount of sugar.... so all I'm saying is that you need to be careful. Just because a recipe is in a Low GI cook book, doesn't mean it's going to help you lose weight.
