Logging a loss again this week and I am soooo grateful bc I had two huge slip ups but some one mentioned to me here that people who allow themselves cheats here and there tend to be more successful at weight loss, so I'm going with that. I honestly think low carb isn't playing a roll in my loss as much as the calorie deficit I'm running every day due to my increased activity level at the gym. However, Im not changing my diet just yet. In fact, I pulled out the book yesterday for "back up" and there is a section called "Pushing the Limits" that really hit a nerve for me. It says you may have found that you can have occasional cheat and still continue to pare off the pounds and that people begin to tell themselves is bc they have high metabolism now so they feel they can push the limits. Sooner or later weight loss will come to a halt.. I think that I'm at the cusp of stalling bc this is the bs I've been telling myself. The ability to burn off body fat is a gift that I've been given.. time to take care of it.. You may wonder, Andee you losing weight, why post this now or even at all .. Welp, buddies bc posting it makes it real for. Posting makes me stop and think, whats causing those cheats and how can I avoid them. Posting forces me to be honest with myself and I need that more than anything.. I've done Atkins 3 times now and this is the farthest I've gotten bc I've gotten cocky. SO time to hunker down.. Time to dig in... Now that all that soul searching is outta the way.. Hope every one has a super duper awesome day!!

Thank you Redgirl for "keeping it real." You never know when something you post might turn on a lightbulb for another dieter. Is that chapter in one of the newer Atkins books (by other authors)? I think I need to read it! The lightbulb you set off for me was that my regain (not just stalling) starts with pushing the limits. And then, because carbs are addictive (and maybe some of us are more sensitive than others), the gate is open and the stampede is on. And for those of you who aren't aware that certain carbs are addictive, consuming grain carbs activates the same area in the brain as opiates do. So if you wonder why you have trouble eating reasonable quantities of bread or pasta or even pizza, now you know what's behind it. My appetite becomes normal when I eliminate grain carbs from my diet.

Great drop - muscle is burning more calories right now. You are right, your body will adjust. I stay lower carb because I just feel better. Not heavy or sluggish like when I eat grains or too much of something.

trackin64, its in the book "The New Atkins for a New You" .. by Eric C Westerman and its basically my Atkins bible. I bought it on Amazon last time I did Atkins so about 4-5 yrs ago for around 8 bucks. Its on page 129 that I read about hitting plateaus and pushing the limits when re-reading the whole OWL section. What you say about carbs and opiates makes sense..and so true for me.. HCB, you soo right. I feel like my lifting at the gym has turned my body into a fat burning machine but I would never ever go back to my old way of eating.. I feel gross every time I cheat and dont miss the sluggishness I feel when i eat carbage.. I think if anything I can add more clean carbs, maybe 40 net and still feel great..

I hear ya Thanks Redgirl for the Motivation,, I guess its time to get the Book out and continue reading it and brushing up on things . I dont really cheat to much but I do sometimes need to be refreshed. And that time is now !! as I have been stalled or I should say up a .5 down a .5 up a .5 down a .5 . That's a stall in my book and I know that LCHF is known for stalls . so time to pull out the book of tricks .:-) Nice 3 pd loss by the way Girl !!

Thanks Redgirl. (BTW I love the term, "carbage." Not only does it have the connotation of "garbage," it also evokes "baggage.") I have grazed through Westerman's book on bookstore visits but my bibles have been books by the Dr. himself. I read and re-read because the books are motivational. I'll take a trip to B&N and look up those pages in Westerman's volume. I may have to pick that one up too. Used books are the way to go given my budget!

i am not a believer of the famous cheat day at all! I rather carb up one day just to jolt my system, and keep with the program. it's hard! but realizing that I can go astray just for cheating naaaa it's not worth it. And by carb up I mean a serving of quinoa or a small side of pasta every 8 to 10 days.

Monkitita , i so agree, I want to try carb cycling and I do for the most part by adding in some black beans every now and then or a V8.. I want to get to the point where I add in some more fruits soon and that's why I had pulled out the book so I could read up on the carb ladder. Its just every time I add in something I feel like I cant control how much I add in of that item like for example cottage cheese or yogurt..I need to find a happy balance some how

Don't be afraid to dream and set big goals! I did that a couple months ago and it has helped me to stay focused. And as always, you are right - writing it makes it more real. Honesty in all things is imperative to stay the course! WTG! Onward!
