KThompson12's Journal, 25 February 2015

5.6 pound loss in 1 week, thank you Atkins!
It's funny reading through my old journal entries, how I say the same thing each time: It's only water, and I know I can gain this back in a weekend of binging; however, again, it's so motivating to lose 5 pounds in a week, to have my clothes fit better, to feel a little sexier, and to have this inspiration that I could continue to lose - so long as I don't eat sugar or processed carbs. Today I will start adding some oatmeal and whole grains into my diet before my heart starts skipping from low carbs. It will slow/stall my loss, but what's the point in losing weight if it kills me. What IS killing me is smoking cigarettes for the past 24+/- years. I'm clearing my throat more, even coughing sometimes and having the most minor trouble deeply inhaling. I'm way to SMART to still be a smoker, but damn it I'm not STRONG enough to quit.

Hey there! I was a smoker for 25 years, about 2 packs a day. I smoked my last cigarette on November 15, 2013. The first week SUCKED! But I figured if some people can survive months or even years fighting in wars, battling debilitating diseases, etc., I can survive a week or two of nicotine withdrawals. Anyway, google "Never Take Another Puff". It's a free EBook that discusses how addiction affects us and why cold turkey is the most effective quitting method. Best of luck to you! I promise you, you will never regret the decision to quit! :)

I agree with Nikki on the smoking. Just quit. That's what I did. Now I can't stand the smell of cigarette smoke, but pipe smoke still kind of gets to me. I quit about 25 years ago and don't regret it at all! If you can diet, you can quit smoking. Be careful with the oatmeal. It is high on the glycemic index. If you HAVE to have oatmeal, try steel cut oats. They have more fiber and a slightly lower glycemic rating. On Atkins, grains are one of the last carbs to add. I'd up the veggies instead...especially the green leafy kind. If that works, add some berries (a very small quantity). If you are still losing, then think about adding grains. If you add carbs too soon or overdo, you will be starting all over again. That's okay for maintenance, but not for losing.
