nosequepongo's Journal, 17 February 2023

So I had the final appointment for the healthy weight program today. They said I'm not approved for surgery because I did too well in the program (lost 15kg) and I can lose the rest of weight (55kg) on my own. First, I'm not sure I can do it on my own, second I mostly wanted the surgery so I could get the skin removal afterwards. No surgery no skin removal. I'm so frustrated, I was told if I did well in the program I'd get the surgery but I guess doing too well was also a bad idea. I don't the weight loss to be my focus for the next four years. I'm tired of being hungry all the time. Anyway, sorry for the rant.

Have a great weekend everyone!
246.7 lb Lost so far: 44.1 lb.    Still to go: 103.4 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

This may be a blessing. Your health team is confident that you can do it. Slow weight loss is the healthiest and preferred way to lose weight. Weight loss surgery comes with its own set of consequences. I suggest that you continue your weight loss journey and continue to build on your progress...

just whah OTB said! Great Job! and Sorry you couldn't get surgery. If you have slow weight loss, you may not have the loose skin issue.

I literally had the lap band paperwork before I found FS and lost the weight naturally. Glad I did it that way. Yes, the loose skin is a pain, but the lower weight and better health are worth it.

If you are doing so well keep going!! Be proud of yourself. You can do great things. Once you reach your goal…Take a loan out for the skin removal…you’re worth it.

Shop around for another doctor/plan. If you have at least 45kg to lose, you should qualify for the surgery somewhere else. And ask the current doctor if there were any other complications that disqualified you from their plan.

Ask your MD for vyvance, it is the only medication for binge eating. It doesn’t make you nervous and you actually sleep better. Hard to explain, I’ve been calorie counting for a month and on this and it really helps!

I agree with John about a blessing in disguise. The surgery can make it difficult to get the proper nutrients. You will have to majorly watch what you eat after it and if you don’t keep the healthy habits you’ve learned you will gain it back, surgery or not. I know it’s disappointing when things don’t go your way, but youve got this! Incorporate more low calorie veggies and water into you meals/snacks if your hungry. Increase protein and eat regularly. I understand the skin thing, I had removal. You still may be able to get insurance to cover it if you show need. Good luck 😘

This is absolutely a blessing. I’m a nurse, and a wise surgeon once told me “never undergo surgery unless you have no other choice, once the changes are made, your body is never the same “. My father used Overeaters Anonymous and lost 80 lbs between 2003 and 2004. He had loose skin for a few years but it did eventually go away. He was about 60 when he lost the weight. Cheers 🥂 💚

Please don’t be disappointed and discouraged. You can do it on your own. Just keep going with your dietary choices. They have been working for you. I have had two friends that chose surgery. One had several health issues after surgery and most of the time couldn’t eat very much without it affecting her digestion. She actually passed away about 4 years after the surgery. Her son told me that he felt the surgery did more harm than good for her. My other friend that had surgery has already regained quite a bit of her weight back. Stay strong and you will be successful. Believe in yourself. You can do this. Keep using Fat Secret to keep you on track and let the community here support you. ❤️

I agree with those who told of the problems with the surgery. I know of several that had the surgery. They had complications .. longterm loss of hair, gaining back the weight. I was also going to have it, but after I saw how it worked for them, I lost it one own and have maintained it for over a yea. you can do this. I lost 60 pounds in less than a year.

You may not be sure, but they think you can lose it on your own, so maybe listen to them. At least try it. You can always have the surgery later, but you can't undo it once done. If you're always hungry, I'd encourage you to look at your diet and see if there's a way to tweak it for more satiety. For me, that's whole foods with fiber, others have different strategies. THE most important thing is your health, so if foregoing surgery is better for your overall health, I'd encourage you to try the route they're recommending first
